The Lego Movie: Official Teaser Trailer

The Lego Movie Poster

The first theatrical Lego movie is on its way and the first trailer has been released. Surprisingly The Lego Movie is a 3D computer animated film, which you would almost be fooled by the trailer. The computer graphics look like sculpted plastic. Giving the impression of a perfectly lit stop motion film. The Lego Movie is starring Chris Pratt, Will Farrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman. The whole project is directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs).

“The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.”

Lego Creator: Sydney Opera House (10234)

Lego Sydney Opera House (10234) Box

Brickworld is currently happening in Chicago, and Lego has  decided to reveal a few new things. Besides the CUUSOO update, Lego has announced their next Creator set: the Sydney Opera House. This new model features 2,989 Lego pieces, built on three baseboards with a modular setup. This approach to building allows this massive set to be moved around easily, without becoming flimsy or delicate. Australia’s most famous Opera House has always been a challenge for Lego to create. The modern curves and clean lines are not the easiest thing to render in Lego. Lego finally believes they have achieved it and will be offering the Sydney Opera House (10234) for sale this September.

“One of the 20th century’s most distinctive buildings- the Sydney Opera House™. Build the unmistakable shell roofline, waterfront forecourt and more with this authentic representation of Australia’s most iconic building. Employ a variety of new and advanced building techniques to recreate the complex forms, angled walls and subtle detailing of the real thing! Collect lots of dark tan LEGO® bricks including the rare 1x1x2/3 stud and 1x2x2/3 stud slopes, as well as a 48×48 stud baseplate in blue for the very first time!” — Lego

Lego has released a design video showcasing the new Opera House: http://youtu.be/30qZPIXEEHo

Lego CUUSOO 005 Review, NASA’s Mars Rover Curiosity Go!

It is official, NASA’s Mars Rover Curiosity is ready to… launch… as the next Lego CUUSOO project. Coming as no surprise to anyone (they have already approved 3 other science based CUUSOO projects). Curiosity was one of three projects considered, the other two were a Star Wars Jawa Sandcrawler, and a Portal 2 theme. No word was said about the Sandcrawler, but there is a little bit said about Portal 2. I will not ruin the surprise (don’t get too excited), you will have to watch the whole video to learn more.

Other CUUSOO news, still no official word or update on the upcoming Back to the Future Delorean Time Machine. Doc. Brown is getting impatient.

First Photos from the upcoming Lego Minifigures Series 11

Lego Minifigures Series 11 Photos: Yeti, Welder, Female Robot, Evil Robot, Scientist

The first photo of the upcoming Lego Minifigures Series 11 has been leaked. Featuring an Evil Mech, Scientist, Yeti, Female Robot, and a Welder. Not pictured here, and not yet confirmed are the figures Jazz Musician, Constable, Holiday Elf, Bavarian Woman, Scarecrow, Mountain Climber, Grandmother, Tike Warrior, Gingerbread Man, Barbarian and Dinner Waitress. The early rumors say that the set will be available sometime around September.

Lego seems to be going strong with the collectible minifigs. No one would have predicted 11 series for this theme. The detail and number of unique parts is what keeps these things going. So far this set is looking pretty good. And, hopefully the distribution will be reasonable. (Stupid Skydiver!)

Series 10 was just recently released, so make sure to pick up a couple of those before this one hits stores. Maybe you will even find a Mr. Gold?

Lego Marvel Super Heroes E3 Trailer

It is E3 this week, which means there is an overwhelming amount of video game news. The Lego Marvel Super Heroes video game is coming out soon and it doesn’t want to be left out of the festivities. New details and a new trailer debuted this week, reaffirming early impressions that this will be a great game. The first piece of great news is that it will feature open-world gameplay, like Lego City Undercover, and also include the traditional platforming gameplay, like Lego Star Wars. It has also been confirmed that New York city, Manhattan, and Loki’s Lair will all be playable locations.

Lots of Marvel characters will be featured in the game, with Wolverine, Captain America, Johnny Storm (Human Torch), Mr. Fantastic, Thor, Deadpool, the Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Sandman, and Loki all getting the digital Lego treatment. More characters will be announced closer to the release date.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

The second series for the Lord of the Rings Lego theme is now available for sale on Amazon.com. These sets help to fill out a lot of the missing characters from the first release. Such minifigures as Elrond, Arwen, Saruman, Gandalf the White, the Mouth of Sauron, the King of the Dead, and many others. These sets are great, and it looks like the Tolkien themes may have many more updates in the future. You can even get an exclusive Lego Eagle that can help you set up plot holes and your favorite Deus ex machina! (HAHA!)

Lego Star Wars: Ewok Village (10236)

Lego Star Wars: Ewok Village 10236 box

This week Twitter was lighting up with messages and rumors about an upcoming Star Wars: Ewok Village set. It didn’t take long for Lego to confirm these rumors. With 1,990 pieces and a price tag of $249.99 this is a massive Ewok Village. The whole set comes with 16 minifigures. 7 of which are exclusive designs and only available in this village. The new set will be available for purchase from Lego Shop@Home in September.

The Ewok Village is built up around 4 trees and suspended in the canopy. There is so much brown and green that anyone making landscapes should be interested. Most Lego Star Wars sets are really cool starships and speeders, and it is rare to get a diorama or landscape based build. The set has been designed to replicate all of your favorite scenes from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. From the capture of Luke, Han, Chewbacca and Leia to the false worship of C3PO. Lego has even included details to help replicate the celebration after the Death Star is destroyed, for instance a set of drums made of recycled Stormtrooper helmets.

Hopefully more of these massive set pieces are coming in the future.

The Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter – Lego CUUSOO Project

Legend of Zelda, Iron Knuckle Encounter

WesTalbott has proposed a Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter project over at the Lego CUUSOO page. This is not the first time the Legend of Zelda has made an appearance on the CUUSOO page, but it is by far the strongest proposal. Lego has said in the past that a previous Legend of Zelda theme would be too expensive to produce due to the need for custom molds. WesTalbott took that news and created the Iron Knuckle Encounter, which would only require 1-3 custom molds. The most important new mold that would be needed is for Links hat. A new sword and shield would be nice too, but those were not designed to be a requirement.

Having Link fight a brick built bad guy is really fun, and certainly appealing to the AFOL market. And, just look at all those wonderful jars, they are just begging to be broken! The whole set would feature said pots, lots of skulls, rupees, and even a boss key. Even the double sided play set provides a lot of play features, and looks great.

In the last few months a lot of the Lego CUUSOO project proposals have become much more realized, probably a side effect of Kickstarter. The Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter features a lot of artwork to go with the proposal, such as a mock up for a Lego box, and a wonderful poster!

The only problem with a Legend of Zelda theme is acquiring a license. Nintendo has never worked with Lego, and is currently working with K’NEX. Stranger things have happened though. Lets all hope that Link can get the treatment he deserves.
