The Ultra Violet, a Deadly Lego Friends Mecha

MarkStafford Lego Friends Mecha Ultra Violet

The official Lego Friends sets can be a bit limiting. They are completely rooted in a city theme, with no signs of expanding into the other Lego themes (Pirates, Space, etc.) A great way to work around this is to create your own Lego creations. One of the best features about Lego is just how modular the pieces are, almost every Lego part can be used with another Lego part. Mark Stafford used his imagination and created a sci-fi themed Lego Friends mecha titled the Ultra Violet. The best part of these MOCs is the innovative use of obscure Lego pieces. Check out the pink baskets, lipsticks, telephones, lightsaber beams, and wood panels. Check out the Friends section for more examples of this.

The Paradisa Viper: Lego Friends Remix

DJQuest Paradisa Viper Lego Friends Remix

There has been a trend developing of creating Lego MOCs with Friends theming. This means usually sticking to a pink and purple color scheme, but some of the best (the Lovely Hotel) add other details. DJ Quest has created a Battlestar Galactica Viper, with the Friends theming, titled Paradisa Viper – Friends Remix. Here the color highlights and other details work extremely well. If you look carefully you can see a standard Lego Minifigure in the cockpit, I wonder if a Lego Friend figure could fit.

Relax at this Lego Beach House

zaberca's Lego Beach House 2

Summer time is here and a good portion of us will be visiting the beach. Even Minifigures need to take a vacation. This MOC, built by zaberca, is titled Beach House 2. The whole thing was originally designed digitally, but when building it in person the project changed quite a bit. Which is great, because this house is impressive. The house itself is built using a lot of SNOT techniques. Make sure to check out the details on the top floor, which is built sideways compared to everything else. This helps give the structure a distinctly modern design.

The interior is fully furnished, and puts most (real) homes to shame. These Minifigs have style.

The Black Fly Lego Starfighter

NannanZhang's Lego MOC Black Fly

“When Chief Engineer Zhang was tasked with designing a compact starfighter, he came up with a fast and agile craft. However, the economy of the design did not allow for placement of weapons, so Zhang remodeled the engine core to contain a uranium detonator. He wasn’t going to be piloting one anyway.”

Some of the most creative work being done in the Lego AFOL community is with starfighters/spaceships. Nannan Zhang is responsible for this little starfighter, known as the Black Fly. Here the use of some obscure Lego pieces is combined with an excellent understanding of color and shape. Usually these type of Lego MOCs are criticized with being extremely delicate; falling apart with the slightest touch. It is extremely rare to find one that is as solid as an official Lego set. Make sure to check out the video below for a detailed look at the Black Fly and just how well made it is.

The Awesome Lego Imperial Star Destroyer Mark II, by Jerac

Jerac's Lego Star Wars Star Destroyer Space

The Star Destroyer is one of the most iconic and cool spaceships ever designed. Almost every kid from the last 30 years has wanted their own. Most of them are disappointing in some way, either being way too small, or not detailed enough. So, Jerac decided to built his own Lego Star Destroyer. And, this one is not a disappointment. This Imperial Star Destroyer Mark II is one of the most impressive and large Lego Star Wars spaceships ever built. The clean lines and perfect design come together in a model that could be a stand-in for the films.

This Imperial Star Destroyer Mark II is nicknamed the Chimaera. It weights about 110 pounds and contains over 42,000 Lego bricks. It is 252 studs long which is about 6.6 feet, or 202 cm. This ship is massive and Jerac estimates that it cost over $5,000 in parts. The whole project took over 6 months to design and build.

Lego Gardening: Beautifully Themed Lego Flower Pots

Jin Kai Soo's The Lord Of The Rings Lego Flower Pot

Sometimes you want to build Lego. Sometimes you want to plant a garden. Sometimes you want to do both, at the same time. Jin Kai Soo has created a mini series of Lego flower pots. Built around popular themed sets. The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and the Simpsons make up the first round of pots. These vignettes have captured some of the most iconic scenes in Lego form, and then integrated living plants. The end result is amazingly beautiful.

The little details really stand out. The choice of plants in each plot is spot on. The knobby roots for the little Hobbits to hide behind. The mossy and lush plants recreating the Forest Moon of Endor. And, the tiny and in scale plants outside the dinner from the Simpsons movie. The other details are great too. The skeleton Stormtrooper and the hungry crocodile fit in perfectly.

These Lego flower pots have been proposed as a project over on Lego Ideas. Go check them out, and vote for them. Other ideas have been proposed, such as Life of Pi, and Jack and the Beanstalk. You can find more photos featuring construction and water flow allowences.

TheBrickFantastic Lego Banksy, Pulp Fiction Bananas

“Never bring a gun to a fruit fight.”

Banksy is well know for his graffiti art, activism, directing and painting. So well known that his most famous works are being recreated in Lego. The Brick Fantastic has produced 20 different Lego Banksy vignettes based on the artists work. These are expertly made images. A great deal of work went into recreating each scene, with lighting and backgrounds that do their best to create a believable Lego world. These vignettes are also good example of using perspective and depth-of-field in your Lego photography.

You can even buy prints of your favorite pieces.

United Nations Headquarters Lego MOC

Spencer_R's United Nations Headquarters Lego MOC

Lego has done a great job with its architecture theme. One of the best models is the Lego United Nations Headquarters (21018). Some of these models are small, and have been shrunk down. The UN Headquarters is one of the most successful examples of this. Even though it is small, a good amount of detail is still present. If you have ever wondered what a Lego architecture set would look like if money and piece count didn’t matter, then this United Nations Headquarters by Spencer_R is perfect. This is a spot-on recreation of the UN Headquaters and has recently been updated with the newer trans blue pieces. The flags and adjoining park have been recreated perfectly and give this Lego MOC a sense of scale.

Lord of the Rings – Lothlorien Swan Ship at Lego Ideas

reekardoo's Lego LOTR, Lothlorien Swan Ship

Then Frodo kissed Merry and Pippin, and last of all Sam, and went aboard; and the sails were drawn up, and the wind blew, and slowly the ship slipped away down the long grey firth; and the light of the glass of Galadriel that Frodo bore glimmered and was lost. And the ship went out into the High Sea and passed on into the West, until at last on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.” — The Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King

The Lothlórien Swan Ship is the creation of reekardoo. The iconic ship makes an appearance in The Return of the King, as the ship that carries the ring bearers across the sea and into the west. These beautiful ships are a project over on Lego Ideas, where they are trying to gain 10,000 supporters within 365 days. The current idea is to include Minifigures of Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel. With options to include Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Cirdan and a couple of Lindon Elves. The Grey Havens have not made an appearance yet as an official Lego set, and this ship would certainly be a great representation.

Lego Star Wars Figures by -derjoe-

derjoe Lego Star Wars Figures, Bounty Hunters Executor Meeting

Flickr user, -derjoe- has been creating these hilarious Lego Star Wars figures for some time. The proportions and basic geometry work surprisingly well.  The “Bounty Hunters ‘Executor Meeting’ ” is a great recreation of that famous scene from The Empire Strikes Back. These guys are built in a “Klotzkopf-Style” which roughly means “Block Head” in english. These have recently appeared in a book titled “Build Your Own Galaxy: The Big Unofficial Builder’s Book
