Filming King Kong vs. Godzilla

Filming King Kong vs. Godzilla, Lego MOC

King Kong vs. Godzilla is one of those classic film match ups. Everyone imagines how they think the fight would go down. In the film King Kong vs. Godzilla, from 1962 the two monsters fight it out on top of Mount Fuji, with Kong eventually emerging as the winner. An interesting story, but a lot of fans wanted to see them fight in a big city. This Lego MOC called “Filming a Giant Monster Movie” is created by Luis Peña. He imagines a big city battle between the giants in a film studio. The lighting trusses are a great use of the large Lego pieces. The black boxes work well as a frame, giving the scene the appearance of a set without adding too much detailing. The Lego architecture style buildings are a perfect use here, but the best detail might be all of the mini cars and vehicles. There is even a tiny fire engine doing its best at damage control. Maybe this time Kong will let Godzilla win?

Wolverine Is Taking On The Sentinels Alone

Wolverine Is Taking On The Sentinels Alone, Lego MOC

Years ago Lego was putting out a few X-Men themed sets. But due to some (comic/film) licensing issues most X-Men toys were shelved. Since that time the occasional mutant would show up in other Marvel themed sets. Such as Deadpool or Scarlet Witch. So fans have been creating their own creations. This Lego MOC, called “Wolverine vs The Sentinels” is created by I Scream Clone.

I Scream Clone spent well over a year designing the Lego Sentinels. Finding the perfect balance (literally) so that they could stand up on their own while looking accurate. These giant robots even have some LEDs wired in their eyes and chest. Perfect for detecting mutants at night.

Wolverine Is Taking On The Sentinels Alone, Lego MOC Daytime

The whole scene looks like something ripped straight out of a comic book. The spotlight on Wolverine reminds me of Days of Future Past (issue 141). Wolverine is probably going to have a bad night. The Lego wall separating the characters looks great. Large and imposing, and yet ruined and crumbling. Inside the junk pile you can find skeleton bones, street signs, and other warning signs. All made out of Lego!

From The Last Jedi, Luke Versus Kylo Ren

From The Last Jedi, Luke Versus Kylo Ren Lego MOC

The big duel from The Last Jedi is when Luke and Kylo Ren face off on the salty planet of Crait. This Lego MOC called “Luke vs. Kylo Ren on Crait” is the work of BlueBrick. The scene features the striking white and red landscape of Crait. There are two main techniques used to make the scene instantly recognizable. The center is built with the bricks turned up on their sides. Allowing for smaller and more narrow details. This is then integrated and hidden by building a border around everything. These SNOT techniques make great display bases. Kylo is a kicking up the salt while Luke is much more calm. A great detail from the film.

It’s The Final Battle, A Lego MOC

It’s The Final Battle, A Lego MOC

The Hero has finally made it to the end, and is ready for the final battle. An epic fight with a giant, made up of a whole bunch of other Minifigures. “The Final Battle” is the creation of SeanBr1cks, who built this Lego MOC as an entry into the Lego Ideas contest. The giant is the star of this build, and amazingly it keeps the Minifigures shape very well. If you look carefully you can even see it has two eyes. It is also rare to see a brick built background. Here it is a bunch of plates turned up on their side. It works well, and is better than a plain white or grey background. Hopefully our little hero brought an extra life or two, or at least a health potion… he’s going to need it.

Fending Off The Lego Giants

Fending Off The Lego Giants

“Fending off the Giants” is a Lego MOC built by Peter Carmichael. It is a reference to Gulliver’s Travels, where the giant gets trapped and tied down by smaller people. Here those Lego Giants are actually Lego Flashlights. Which are neat toys, but infamously not easy to combine with your Lego collection. The base is a great design, with a combination of plates and slopes to give it that 3D quality. These types of bases are great for displaying your MOCs. As mini builds the gold gem flail stands out, as does the tall tree. The solution for tying down the giants is also great, and manages to use official Lego pieces. Then there is the defending army being a bunch of random classic Minifigures which is great. The question is if they can manage to win the battle. Giant Emmet doesn’t look like he is going down easily.

The Sad Tale Of Sir Warick The Overconfident, A Lego Fire Dragon

A Lego Fire Dragon

Lego and dragons go way back. With all sorts of official and MOC models created out of lego. This one might be one of the most impressive beasts yet. This Lego Fire Dragon is created by Mark, of The Brickman team, and titled “The Sad Tale of Sir Warick the Overconfident.” It seems that an overconfident knight has found themselves overpowered by a giant dragon. It didn’t help that a local witch mislead Sir Warick into thinking he was dragon-proof. The finished model contains well over 10,000 lego pieces and took over 100 hours to put together.

This dragon is seriously huge. The final model had to be made with transportation in mind. It also features gigantic folding (and removable) wings made out of pleather. A complicated collection of ball joints and curved slopes. The dragon is also breathing fire, with an impressive light feature. The whole scene is then set on a massive rocky (and snowy) base.

Lego Batman vs Joker At The Art Deco Gotham Theater

Paul Hetherington Lego Batman Gotham vs Joker, Gotham Theater Showdown

There are a whole bunch of Lego Batman MOCs out there (click here). And for some reason people put a whole lot of time creating some of the most massive Lego scenes out there (see this one, and this one). The great thing is that there is always room for more. Check out this beautiful Lego MOC, titled “Lego Batman vs Joker Gotham Theater Showdown” built by Paul Hetherington. The scene depicts an epic fight between Batman, Robin, and Joker in the streets of Gotham. This MOC is essentially three smaller builds in one. The center piece is the Art Deco styled Gotham Theater, there is the street and trolly outside, and there is a huge brick built background. There is even a detailed story:

“Once again that Mad Harlequin of Hate, The Joker, brings menace to the citizens of Gotham. Beware as the Streetcar named Destruction advances into Gotham, and the Joker’s henchmen unleash horrible Joker Gas! Listen to the eerie dreadful laughing — has the Joker taken control of everyone?!? Wait — look above – that symbol of justice descending from the sky — The Batcopter! Piloted by the plucky Robin, The Boy Wonder and the courageous Batman! Are the tornado team of crime crushers in time to oppose the Grim Jester in the gripping tale of — Gotham Theater Showdown!”

Paul Hetherington has created one of the most beautiful Lego Art Deco style buildings. The Gotham Theater was originally inspired by Marbro Theater of Chicago (sadly torn down in 1964). This build features a limited palette of beige, brown, black, and gold detailing. Check out all of the unique patterns and textures on the facade.

Gotham Theater Power Functions Video

The Lego Batman vs Joker Gotham Theater Showdown has a secret. Power functions have been built into the scene and carefully hidden. The street car moves back and forth. The Joker is moving/aiming the balloon cannon up and down. The cops are all laughing out of control, spinning and falling down. And the Batcopter is hovering/twirling in place amid all this chaos.

Lego Porygon used Seizure! It’s super effective!

Julius von Brunk's Lego Pokemon Porygon, Geodude

Go! PORYGON!

Enemy GEODUDE used TACKLE!

Enemy GEODUDE’s attack missed!

PORYGON used SEIZURE!

It’s super effective!

Pokemon have some of the most interesting creatures. Here we have an anthropomorphic rock fighting an enemy that is completely made up of programming code. Geodude versus Porygon. Porygon is one of those really weird Pokemon, it just doesn’t fit into the game like the others do. Although there are swords, hearts and keychain looking Pokemon, so maybe it fits in just fine. These two creatures are the creation of Julius von Brunk. Geodude makes good use of sphere building techniques, and by using the printed spiral pieces for eyes, ends up having a lot of personality. Then there is Porygon. Maybe the best candidate for Lego. The simple polygon look is easy enough to replicate, and this version is looking good. Did you know Porygon is also the world’s first artificially created Pokémon? Now you do!

The Lands of Classic Castle: Uncovered

Disco86's Lego The Lands of Classic Castle: Uncovered

Lego has inspired many great MOCs. There are a few themes (Classic Space, Classic Castle, Star Wars, Middle Earth, Harry Potter, City) that have communities devoted to them. One of the most active communities is for the Classic Castle theme. Many Lego creations are created for this theme every day. One such place fans gather is at Classic-Castle. Over there is a unique fantasy world under development called the Lands of Classic Castle. An extremely detailed story and setting are being created piece by piece. The newest entry into the series is title “Uncovered” and is the creation of Disco86. Documenting an intense sea battle with Paul von Brickenstein.

Disco86's Lego The Lands of Classic Castle: Uncovered Detail

These castle theme Lego MOCs are usually extremely well done. Uncovered is no exception. With a relatively focused scene, every brick lends itself to the action. Some great Minifigures and photography are on display. The man overboard and the jumping attack are two great details. Also on display is the increasing trend of building amazing display frames.
