Lego and Nintendo went all out on this set. Specifically trying to be as accurate as possible. The nostalgia is one of the main selling points as Lego points out that this set is a way to recapture childhood magic. You can plug in the controller and even load the game cartridge. The Lego NES is mostly in scale, and the size of this set is a lot bigger than first appearances.

The Lego Nintendo Entertainment System (71374) Building Set

One of the coolest features is the 1970s / 1980s style television. It features all the expected fake wood paneling, knobs, and even comes with a stand. A lot of the labels and details are achieved with stickers, which in a way, is accurate to these old TVs.

The Lego NES - Nintendo Entertainment System (71374) Announced

The backside reveals some very interesting build details. According to the label, this is a LO-TECH 1310 Color TV. The old hook ups are all present (coaxial and component), and an antenna can be positioned in whatever direction needed to pick up those Lego signals. On the side is a small hand crank, which leads to one of the most interesting Lego play features ever built.

The Lego NES - Nintendo Entertainment System (71374) - TV Television

The TV displays a Lego version of the first level from Super Mario Bros. The special feature is that with the hand crank you can advance the level all the way to the end. The effect is achieved with a complicated system of Technic pieces and a lot of flat plates. A bunch of neat printed tiles are featured including: Goombas, Koopa shells, a super star, coins, and question blocks. There is even a custom printed Lego Mario tile!

The Lego NES - Nintendo Entertainment System (71374) Announced Level

As the level advances (by turning the crank) Lego Mario will actually run through the level. Running and jumping all the way to the end. You can even combine the bluetooth Mario figure from the Super Mario theme with the TV. The Lego Mario will animate and play all the music and sound effects in time with what is on the TV. A neat feature, achieved with a bunch of brightly colored plates. An evolution of what is found in the Hidden Side theme.

A Typewriter, Home Alone, And Seinfeld Are The Next Lego Ideas Sets!

A Typewriter, Home Alone, And Seinfeld Are The Next Lego Ideas Sets!

Lego has just released the results of their newest Lego Ideas review. The Third 2019 Review had twelve projects make the cut, and three of them have passed the review. The upcoming releases will include a Lego Typewriter (with working mechanisms), a Lego version of the McCallister House from Home Alone, and a Lego Seinfeld apartment set for the shows 30th anniversary. These three sets represent the kind of releases Lego Ideas tends to approve. There is the non-licensed toy/object, the classic television sitcom, and the nostalgic family friendly movie. As usual, these Lego Ideas pitches do not represent the final product, and there will probably be both minor and major changes in order to get these up to Lego standards.

Three of the projects that did not pass this round will have similar themes being reviewed again. That means that the Legend of Zelda, Futurama, and Queen all have a second change. The next giant sized review will feature 26 different projects, and the winners will be announced sometime in the fall of 2020.

Lego Super Mario Theme Has Powered Up With New Info, Boss Level Details

All 16 sets have been designed to be connected with each other. The result is that you get to create your own custom Mario level. A sort of real life Super Mario Maker. There are friendly good guys, evil boss battles, and all sorts of play features represented. On top of all that Mario can even collect a bunch of power-ups. Collecting all the sets will certainly be a challenge (you will need about $600), but the end result is impressive.

Lego Super Mario Theme Has Powered Up With New Info, Character Packs 71361

Fans of Nintendo and Mario might not want to jump all in with the bluetooth enabled Mario sets. In which case, a collection of 10 collectable blind-bag sets are available. This mini theme looks great on its own. Each featuring one of the famous baddies from the Mario Universe. There is a Fuzzy, Bom-omb, Spiny, Blooper, Eep Cheep, Urchin, Bullet Bill, Buzzy Beetle, Peepa, and a Paragoomba. You can preorder these on Lego. icon

Lego Super Mario Theme Toad's Treasure Hunt 71368

A few of the newly revealed sets include Toad’s Treasure Hunt Expansion (71368). A neat little set that features Toad, Toadette, two Cheep Cheeps, and a Goomba. This village has a neat play feature in that there are three hidden blocks that Mario must discover and jump on in a certain order to win coins.

Lego Super Mario Theme Mario's House and Yoshi 71367

Another new set is Mario’s House and Yoshi Expansion (71367). A cozy house that almost looks like it is straight out of Animal Crossing. A Super Star is hiding somewhere inside. The main feature is the hammock, in which Mario can lay down in and fall asleep. Plus, Yoshi and a Goomba are hanging around too.

Lego Super Mario Theme Guarded Fortress 71362

Then there is the iconic Guarded Fortress Expansion (71362). The classic small castle at the end of every level. There is even a flag pole outside that Mario can slide down (and any other character with hands). A Koopa Troopa, Piranha Plant, and Bob-omb are blocking the way. A hidden Pow Block might just be the right tool to use here. No sign of a princess so she must be in another castle.

The Manor Von  Barron, A New Lego Haunted House (10273)

The Manor  Von  Barron, A New Lego Haunted House (10273) Opened

Lego has announced a new huge haunted house set that just happens to be a theme park ride. The Haunted House (10273), also known as Manor Von Barron is part of the Fairgrounds Collection. The set is pretty much Lego’s version of the Tower of Terror from the Disney parks. The Manor is built up around a huge tower, inside of which is a terrifying elevator thrill ride. The set will be sold in a very nice looking black box, with a perfect bound deluxe instruction manual (think Lego Architecture). The Haunted House has a June 1st release, contains 3231 pieces, and will be priced at $249.99/€249.99.

The Manor  Von  Barron, A New Lego Haunted House (10273) Box Back

The Manor Von Barron has a whole story backing it up. The house itself is named after Baron Von Baron (also known as Sam Sinister), a Minifigure that appeared in the Adventurers theme. It seems that his manor has been turned into a popular theme park trill ride. Once guest enter the lobby they will find a ticket counter, a candle lit chandelier, a huge organ player, a lot of Egyptian artifacts, a spooky alter, and the elevator itself. On the second floor a huge portrait of the Baron can be found. A neat feature is that a light brick can turn on and project a secret about the painting. A few of the mechanical features include self opening lobby doors, a working elevator, doors that automatically open at the top of the tower, and a fancy flywheel system to drop the elevator back down to the lobby. Check out the video below to see it in action!

Level Up With Lego Super Mario Details And Video

Lego Super Mario Theme Details

Lego has revealed new details about their new theme based on Super Mario. Previously they showcased a short teaser video on MAR10 day, and now they are showing off a lot more of the theme. It is very clear in the provided details that this set is being produced for kids. The whole theme is a new direction for Lego, which they put best stating:

“Neither a video game nor a traditional LEGO brick-based set, LEGO® Super Mario™ is a new product line that features an interactive LEGO Mario figure who collects coins in real-life game levels created with LEGO bricks. The new line will let kids experience the playful world of Super Mario like never before. Super Mario will be brought to life in the physical LEGO world and new levels of challenge and styles of play will be part of the iconic LEGO experience enjoyed by generations.”

There is no release date or pricing details at this time. Lego did announce that more information is coming soon, with a planned release in the Summer of 2020.

Lego Goomba And Mario
Lego Super Mario Set

This new theme seems to fit in between Duplo and the Classic System sets. They share a lot in common with the recent Lego Junior sets. A lot of big pieces and simple building techniques.

The new sets features a bluetooth enabled Mario, with interactive screens and speakers. With these new electronic abilities Mario is able to interact with the Lego set by keeping scores, playing music, and setting a timer. He features realativly few brick customizing features. It looks like only the iconic Mario hat and a few 1×1 rounds are removable.

The new Lego Super Mario theme looks a whole lot like the Mario Party video games. The sets combine to create a board game looking layout. You could say they are recreating the platforming levels from the games. As you move Lego Mario around you can stomp on Goombas, defeat Koopa Troopas, swim past Bloopers, and embarrass Shy Guys. There is even a boss at the end, this time its Baby Bowser.

Lego Mario Party Video Game
Lego Shy Guy

Along the way Lego Mario can find some help. A brick built Lego Yoshi, a handy Warp Pipe, and even Toad’s house. Some quick notes about the theme: It seems that the interactive features are found in various new Lego pieces. The big feet piece found on Yoshi and the Shy Guy probably hides some of the electronics, as does the turtle shell on Baby Bower. There are also a lot of new plates. A very interesting design in the green plates topping the landscaping is that they are probably hiding other electronic bits.

The Lego Super Mario theme looks like a lot of fun for kids. The Mario Party design is interesting, and all the features of Bluetooth Mario could prove to be fun.

New Lego Minions Theme, Ready To Invent In April

Lego Minions Theme 75551 Brick Built Minions And Their Lair

Lego Minions are one of the most popular themes for MOCs. Almost everybody seems to like them, and there are a million different ways to build them. So it is no surprise that Lego has officially announced a new Lego Minions Theme. Five sets were revealed at the 2020 New York Toy Fair. The biggest set (and coolest) revealed is 75551 Brick-built Minions and their Lair. It features two substantial brick built minions, Kevin and Stuart. They look great on their own, but they also come with 3 Minion Figures/Minifigures. They also mention that you can rebuild Kevin into Bob, but exactly what is going on is unclear in the photos.

The surprise with this set is that the giant Minions can open up to reveal their hidden lairs/rooms. Kevin opens up into a tall laboratory. Perfect for inventing crazy stuff. While Stuart opens up into a bedroom. Full of toys and games. The new sets also feature Instructions PLUS, a new interactive set of building instructions for your phone and tablet.

Lego Ideas Third 2014 Review (#013) Revealed

Lego Ideas 2014 Review

The latest Lego Ideas Review (Third 2014, #013) has been officially revealed. The next Ideas set will be the Marble Maze. This set will feature a fully working marble labyrinth. The kind with two knobs, marbles, and pitfalls all wrapped up in a wooden box (in this case a Lego box). However the final model will be designed, it will be featuring a good amount of technic building, which Lego Ideas hasn’t used too much.

The other proposed sets that didn’t make the cut in this review included the Avengers Helicarrier, The Goonies Inferno Pirate Ship, The Natural History Museum, The Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith, Jurassic Park Gate, a Piano, and the Flying Dutchman. No reasons for the denial were given. Lego did leave us with a little surprise, saying that they were still considering the F7A Hornet from the video game Star Citizen. Check out the full video below.
