The Lego NES – Nintendo Entertainment System (71374) Announced

An official Lego Nintendo Entertainment System has been announced. It follows the recent announcement of the Lego Super Mario Theme. With these new sets, Nintendo fans are reaching new heights of excitement. The Lego NES (71374) is a huge release. It comes with a complete NES, controller, a Super Mario Bros. cartridge, and a retro TV. All together there are 2,646 pieces priced at $229.99. This new set will be available starting August 1st (you can order now), the same day as the Lego Super Mario theme.

Lego and Nintendo went all out on this set. Specifically trying to be as accurate as possible. The nostalgia is one of the main selling points as Lego points out that this set is a way to recapture childhood magic. You can plug in the controller and even load the game cartridge. The Lego NES is mostly in scale, and the size of this set is a lot bigger than first appearances.

One of the coolest features is the 1970s / 1980s style television. It features all the expected fake wood paneling, knobs, and even comes with a stand. A lot of the labels and details are achieved with stickers, which in a way, is accurate to these old TVs.

The backside reveals some very interesting build details. According to the label, this is a LO-TECH 1310 Color TV. The old hook ups are all present (coaxial and component), and an antenna can be positioned in whatever direction needed to pick up those Lego signals. On the side is a small hand crank, which leads to one of the most interesting Lego play features ever built.

The TV displays a Lego version of the first level from Super Mario Bros. The special feature is that with the hand crank you can advance the level all the way to the end. The effect is achieved with a complicated system of Technic pieces and a lot of flat plates. A bunch of neat printed tiles are featured including: Goombas, Koopa shells, a super star, coins, and question blocks. There is even a custom printed Lego Mario tile!

As the level advances (by turning the crank) Lego Mario will actually run through the level. Running and jumping all the way to the end. You can even combine the bluetooth Mario figure from the Super Mario theme with the TV. The Lego Mario will animate and play all the music and sound effects in time with what is on the TV. A neat feature, achieved with a bunch of brightly colored plates. An evolution of what is found in the Hidden Side theme.

Lego Ultraman Will Save The World

Ultraman is a character from the Ultra Series, a collection of TV shows, films, and video games. One of the first giant monster fighting series from Japan. This Lego Ultraman (ウルトラマン) is created by Moko. The figure has a lot of interesting features, and is a deceptively complicated build. Ultraman has been built in parts, kind of like a bunch of mini builds, and then assembled at the end. This type of design means that each part looks complete, and every angle that you can view of the figure looks good. Ultraman is fully posable, and features a full set of articulation points. The head can move side to side, up and down, and swivel. The torso can turn side to side, while the arms move at the elbow and feature a neat double jointed shoulder. There are also joints in the wrists, fingers, pelvis, knees, and ankles. All of that means that this Ultraman can be displayed any way you can think. A Rocko’s Modern Life Lego Build

Everyones favorite animated wallaby has recently returned to earth after being lost in space for over 20 years. Everything seems so different since the 1990s and now Rocko has to adapt to his new modern life. This Lego MOC called “Rocko Rama” is created by Cameron. It is based on the Nickelodeon television show Rocko’s Modern Life. This Lego figure has been built for the 2020 BioCup. The challenge is to build something with the theme of “The Natural World” and “Marsupials.” The end result is completely built out of Lego. That includes the shirt, which was part of the Lego Scala theme. Even the Dodge logo being used for the nose is an official Lego sticker. The designer is really pushing their creativity, especially with the limited part availability in the tan color. You might notice that the hand have fingers built out of Minifigure arms. Maybe someday in the future Lego Rocko can find a Lego Spunky, Heffer, and Filburt to hang out and watch TV with.

Lets Cook! — A Breaking Bad Lego Build

“Lets Cook” is a Breaking Bad themed Lego MOC created by Mr.MOCsProductions. This scene was built as an entry into RebelLUG’s Vignweek contest. The idea was to build someones lair, and there is no better location in Breaking Bad than the RV. This retro styled RV is a great build. Especially the overall shape. The gentle slope of the front end is perfect. Note all the work done to seamlessly blend the slope into the rest of the square vehicle. The Lego wrench used for the door is another great detail. Two little chairs and a desert themed base finish the scene. The cactuses are well built, mostly made up of 1×2 plates. Finally the tan, and brown bricks simulate the desert outside New Mexico well.

Just How Do Those Westworld Robots Work?

Westworld is an interesting show. The robots that exist in the park are incredibly lifelike. So human that even the people behind the scenes have a hard time identifying robot from human. The show goes into great detail on how these mechanical people are created. Robot arms work endlessly to print muscle and tissue, bit by bit. The milky white bodies make for a very artistic image. The problem is that the show also goes to great lengths to not show how these Westworld Robots work. How do their white bodies end up looking like flesh? What is their power source? This Lego MOC is a recreation of the iconic scene in the opening credits. “Westworld Host Printing” is created by Mitch Phillips. The figure in the circle is an especially impressive build. Almost as complicated as printing a real robot. You can see a lot of Lego pieces, such as horns, clips, robot harms, teeth and bones. Maybe it is a tiny Power Functions motor operating these bots?

A Life-Size Lego Homer Simpson Bust

In The Simpsons the show started with the focus on Bart, but over time Homer Simpson won the hearts of viewers and writers. What better way to celebrate this iconic character than this Lego Homer Simpson Bust built by Julius von Brunk. This Homer is life-size, which mean this model is a lot bigger than you would expect. The model proved to be more difficult than expected, especially the curved shape of the head. This Lego Homer has all the expected hair, which along the sides is made out of angled Lego horns, and the two strands on top are made out of slopes. The ears in particular turned out well and give the final model a lot of personality. A good example of how a Lego build will change over time is that the original model had a different eye design that even had eyelids. But, at the last minute they were redesigned with the more classic wide-eyed look. D’oh!

Jump Through Some Portals With This Lego Rick And Morty

Grab your portal gun and run. In Rick and Morty it is revealed that there are infinite worlds that also have alternate dimensional versions of Rick and Morty. As told in the episode “Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind.” This Lego MOC of Rick and Morty is the work of MadLEGOman. There must be a dimension out there where everyone and everything is made out of Lego. And their Rick and Morty might just look like these two. The two Lego figures are fully articulated, and can hold many poses. Morty is is made out of submarine propeller housing pieces, and has Minifigure legs for fingers. Rick has a brick built lab jacket and comes with a portal gun. One thing that is easy to overlook is that these figures are a lot taller than at first glance. Ricks head alone is about the size of a fist. These two are ready for some weird adventures.

Lego Twin Peaks And The Black Lodge

In the small town of Twin Peaks something strange has been going on. FBI agent Dale Cooper is on the case of a mysterious murder. Along the way, there are some weird dreams, larger than life characters, and some damn fine coffee. Throughout the investigation Coop keeps finding himself in The Black Lodge (also known as the red room, and the waiting room). This Lego version is the creation of Dylan Lane. They have recreated the red curtains, modern furniture, and zig zag flooring. The curtains are brick built and look just as mysterious as on the television show. The iconic flooring is made out of a bunch of 1×2 flat place turned up on their sides. This Lego Twin Peaks build also features a handful of characters. Including: FBI Agent Dale Cooper, the Giant Man, the Man From Another Place, Laura Palmer, the Log Lady, and Bob. All of which use official Lego parts.

Can’t Find A Channel With This Lego TV

Having to move and adjust the antennae back and forth, desperately trying to find a channel that works while everyone is yelling at you. That is an experience your Lego Minifigures can now experience. This build called “Broken” is the work of LegoLyman. It is an excellent Minifig scale television. A perfect accessory for any house, room, or building. This cathode-ray tube (CRT) style TV has the depth and small screen that is iconic to these old TVs. You can change out the four 1×2 plates and make any pattern you want on the screen. The two silver 1×1 round bricks work perfectly as knobs for adjusting UHF and VHF, and the rabbit ear style antennae on top is great too. If you have a broken Lego lever this is a great way to put it to use. Dunno if you should bend/break new levers for this. Maybe if the Minifigures could replace the bent lever with a new one they could find a channel?

Mike, Gypsy, And Cambot In A Lego Mystery Science Theater

This Lego Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) build is the creation of Chris Doyle. The scene features the host Mike, and the robot Gypsy. The original television show started in 1988, and continues on (in some form) today. A human and a few robots are aboard the spaceship The Satellite of Love, and are forced to take part in an experiment: to see what happens to humans when forced to watch terrible movies. This scene feature Mike, the second human host to take part in the experiment. This Lego build depicts the moment between bad movies, when Mike and the robots are getting into all sorts of wacky situations. Mike is a great caricature and looks very animated. Check out those Lego hands, the solution for thumbs works well. Gypsy the purple robot is instantly recognizable. In another photo, you can see Cambot is also hanging around, and a mirror is used to show off the design. An excellent use of a Lego tire. Will Lego Mike Nelson ever finish the experiment, or will he finally escape?
