It’s Mean, It’s Green, It’s the Mystery Machine. Lego Scooby Doo Details.

For a little while now there have been rumors of an official Lego Scooby Doo theme for 2015. It certainly is not the most demanded theme, but Lego is trying its best to win over all our hearts. Everything is being timed for maximum exposure, with a new Scooby Doo TV show titled “Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!” premiering on Cartoon Network soon. The first official images from Lego are starting to be released. The most popular set will probably be the Mystery Machine (75902) which will retail at $29.99. This set features Shaggy, Scooby Doo, and Fred fighting off a zombie and evil tree. Scooby Doo is looking especially impressive, with some fine printing that puts most of the other Lego dogs to shame.

The current line up features 5 sets covering a good amount of the show: Mummy Museum Mystery (75900), Mystery Plane Adventures (75901), Mystery Machine (75902), Haunted Lighthouse (75903), and Mystery Mansion (75904). The whole gang will be represented in Minifigure form. Fred, Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, Daphne, and Velma. Hopefully we won’t need to purchase the whole theme to complete the team.

Interestingly, there will be a special Lego episode, probably animated as a 3D CGI cartoon…

“In another first, the Scooby Gang will be animated in LEGO form. In 2015, fans can look forward to a 22-minute LEGO special, featuring Scooby-Doo, and produced in partnership with Warner Bros. Animation. In addition, Warner Bros. Animation will also be producing made-for-video movie titles, which will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in the coming years.”

Top Gear Season 22 Trailer Has Gone Full Lego

It is no surprise to see Lego and Top Gear working together. One of the hosts of Top Gear, James May, built a full house out of Lego in Surrey. Although it didn’t work out as hoped, millions of Lego bricks were donated to charity after the house was destroyed. Now there is a full trailer for the new season of Top Gear, season 22, animated in 3D Lego. Seeing various cars rendered in Lego, including a 3 wheeler is fun. It works so well that it is a shame that season 22 is not entirely done in Lego.

Lego Scooby Dooby Doo, Where Are You?

If there was one theme I was not expecting to hear rumors that Lego would produce, its Scooby Doo. It seems that Lego has been working on a spooky theme, and now its seems an official Lego Scooby Doo theme is the top contender for this release. This new theme would be hitting shelves around May or June of 2015, and will consist of 4 sets. It seems that the iconic Mystery Van, a Haunted House, and two unknown sets are in the works. With the whole gang represented in Minifigure form. Fred, Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, Daphne, and Velma. Also expect to see a few of the monsters represented. I wonder if they will be regular Minifigures wearing costumes? Because that would be fun.

Lego Lowrider, Flamingo Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

It looks like the Lego Friends have a new ride, or maybe Homer Simpson upgraded the sedan. Either way this Lego Lowrider is awesome. Alex Jones (Orion Pax) created this MOC titled the “Flamingo Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.” It is always interesting to see what people can do with Lego pieces, especially those that have a limited color palette. It features a tri-tone paint job (hot pink, pink and purple), with chrome accents and whitewall tires. The car has hot pink wood paneling and the windshield is even transparent pink. This Oldsmobile has style.

A Lego Star Wars Posable AT-ST

Lego has made at least two versions of the Star Wars AT-ST and each has their own unique problems. The AT-ST (7657) is a Minifigure scale walker that is just plain ugly. Lego has also released an Ultimate Collector’s Imperial AT-ST (10174) which looks great but is much larger then previous AT-ST. It is way too large to display with Lego Minifigures. There is a great demand to have an accurate representation of the AT-ST that is appropriately sized to the Star Wars Minifigs. Over on Lego Ideas, user hobocamp has proposed a project for a fully posable AT-ST. The walker has a surprisingly large range of motion, thanks to its ball jointed legs, and is sturdy enough to stand on its own.

A Lego Gee Bee Z Super Sportster Airplane

Over on Lego Ideas a Lego Gee Bee Z Super Sportster airplane has landed. This iconic plane features a yellow and black paint job that is instantly recognizable. The sleek fuselage and clean lines proved to be a challenge for the designer, buggyirk, to replicate in Lego. The Lego Gee Bee Z achieved its final shape with only 521 Lego pieces, and a wingspan of 34 studs. You might recognize the Gee Bee from the film “The Rocketeer” but it has a much more interesting history.

“This iconic plane was originally designed in the golden age of air racing, 1931 by Granville Brothers Aircraft of Springfield, Massachusetts USA. The name “Gee Bee” is short for the (G)ranville (B)rothers name. Designed in the middle of the Great Depression with money from investors, it was dubbed the “City of Springfield”. The Gee Bee Z won every race it had entered including the prestigious Thompson Trophy race. Shortly after the Thompson Trophy win, one of the pilots of the Gee Bee Z, Lowell Bayles, would beat the world speed record of 278.48 mph(448.17 km/h). He beat the record with 4 passes by going an average of 281.75 mph(453.43km/h). Unfortunately, in order to officially beat the record, the airplane had to go 4.97 mph(8 km/h) faster than the previous record. Bayles made his final attempt to beat the record on December 5, 1931. This final attempt would end in disaster. The plane crashed, ending Bayles’s life. On January 14, 1932, Lowell Bayles was posthumously awarded the world speed record of 281.75 mph(453.43 km/h) from his previous attempt.” — buggyirk

A Lego Poison Pinto

Originally, the Poison Pinto is a famous Hot Wheels based off of the 1979 Ford Pinto Van. It may also be known as The Thing. Lego builder Nathan Proudlove was recently challenged to rebuild this iconic car with Lego pieces. Mission accomplished. The Lego Poison Pinto features a spot-on lime green paint job, an exposed engine, custom decals, and redline tires. The end result is a very mean looking Pinto.

A Chibi Gundam Made with Lego

Lego and robots are a very popular theme (see here). Sometimes these themes combine to create something cool. This chibi styled Lego Gundam (という訳でガンダム。初代ガンダム。), by Moko, is one of those prefect Lego MOCs. The cute little mecha features SNOT techniques that create a remarkably articulated model. The Mobile Suit needs all of this movability if it is going to survive the war. Lego has been releasing robot themed models at in increasing rate. Maybe someday something as complicated and sleek as this Chibi Gundam will have an official release. We can only hope.

Not only does this Gundam come with a huge gun, and shield but Moko went as far as creating a whole arsenal. It appears that there is access to two sniper rifles, two “light sabers,” a huge mace, and a ball-and-chain. Nothing can stop this robot.

The Neo-Blacktron Alienator: A reboot of Lego set 6876

“You cannot hide, Federation!”

If one Lego theme could sum up the 1980’s it would be Blacktron. Jeremy Williams has created the Alienator, a Neo-Blacktron reboot of official Alienator (6876) from 1988. The iconic black and yellow color scheme, the laser gridded star field, and the clunky design is all perfectly represented. The first thing to be updated were the swinging skies which are now four hydraulic legs. One of the best features of this walker is the hidden Pulse Generator hidden in the central body.
