These Wizards By The Coast Are On Holiday – Lego MOC

Wizards By The Coast - Lego MOC

The Wizards by the Coast is a Lego MOC built by Josh. A few wizards are enjoying their time off from saving/destroying the world. The build has a bunch of interesting and odd details. The first is the giant terraced garden with water magically flowing down each level until it meets up with the sea. A fun part of the scene is how the water changes from transparent clear, to transparent blue when it hits the ground. There is a giant butterfly feeding on some flowers atop a spiraling spire. And a very tiny Wizards tower is topped by a glowing crystal. A magical spell must fit a glorious interior inside the small tower. A few details that are neat include the Lego Minifigure ice cream being used for waves, the bee hive above the rocky cliff, and the Wizard using magic to grill up some fresh fish.

A Day In The Garden With Noctura

A Day In The Garden With Noctura, Lego Elves MOC

After being banished to the Shadow World by the Elves, Noctura spends her days off in her hidden garden. Even villains need some peace and quiet. This Lego Elves themed MOC is called “Noctura’s Garden” and is built by Kristel. The vignette has been created for the Eurobricks Flower Show. The build comes with a simple base which is a great way to make your Lego MOC displays stand out. The scene features a lovely but dangerous looking forest. Complete with a charming stone pathway. The forest is built out of a lot of black tentacle pieces, and various black flora. There are pink and dark blue leaves, mixed with teeth/thorns. A few glowing gems complete the look. The end result is a perfect fantasy forest. There is no better place to plan revenge than Noctura’s Garden.

A Floating Island — A Lego Tensegrity Build

A Floating Island — A Lego Tensegrity Build

This Floating Island is a Lego Tensegrity Sculpture built by LaughingJelly. This scene would fit in perfectly with Ninjago. The floating island is carefully balanced over a serene lake. The optical effect is actually created with a system of tension. The three Lego ropes / strings are holding the island up. In order to get the length just right the designer has hidden a technic pin inside the rocks, and has coiled the center string until the effect works. It can hold a surprisingly large amount of bricks / weight, but any sort of horizontal pressure will cause everything to fall over. The sheer amount of grass and vegetation makes the scene look like a hidden garden. And, the whole thing has been built on top of a detailed base. A detail that a lot of designers skip over.

A Relaxing Weekend At The Fishing Cabin

A Relaxing Weekend At The Fishing Cabin, Lego MOC

When it gets hot outside there is something about spending all day fishing that just seems relaxing. All your worries from work are left behind as you fall asleep on the warm pier. Catching a fish would be nice, but it doesn’t really matter. You already have everything you need for a sleepy weekend. This scene is perfectly captured with this Lego MOC called “Fishing Cabin,” which is created by Nathan Hake. The simple cabin is actually hiding a lot of little details. Everything that you need to live is nearby. Lego Pumpkins and Vegetables in the nearby garden, a friendly dog to keep you company, a woodpile to supply your fireplace, fresh water, a canoe, and even a scarecrow to talk to when you get lonely. In this build the water looks especially nice. A layer of transparent blue 1×2 tiles on top of other colors creates a body of water with depth. There are even a few 1×2 transparent bricks mixed in giving the impression of moving water. The Lego tree looks appropriately old and gnarled. And the little cabin features a very nice color palette and interesting wooden roof. You can even find a little Lego radio out on the pier.

The Hanging Gardens, A Lego Wonder

The Hanging Gardens, A Lego Wonder

One of the seven wonders of the world. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon are named after the ancient city they were built in. They were also known as the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis which is named after the Queen who had them built. This lush garden was built on a sort of ziggurat, with water flowing down each level. Pumping the water up to the top was achieved by a system of giant screws, known as Archimedes Screws. This Lego version, called “the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis,” is built by Simon Hundsbichler. The gardens were built for three different challenges: the Style it-up challenge (no exposed studs), the Iron Builders challenge (use Minifigure legs/pants), and the Switch My Lantern Up challenge (use a lantern). There is a lot going on here. If you look as some of the details you might notice: stairs built out of stacked tan window inserts, Minifigure legs both short and normal representing columns and even water, green Minifigure hair as a tree, blue Minifigure hands as water detail, and tan Minifigure side bags (satchels) as stairs. This plastic garden is almost as wondrous as the original.

Lego Gardening: Beautifully Themed Lego Flower Pots

Jin Kai Soo's The Lord Of The Rings Lego Flower Pot

Sometimes you want to build Lego. Sometimes you want to plant a garden. Sometimes you want to do both, at the same time. Jin Kai Soo has created a mini series of Lego flower pots. Built around popular themed sets. The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and the Simpsons make up the first round of pots. These vignettes have captured some of the most iconic scenes in Lego form, and then integrated living plants. The end result is amazingly beautiful.

Jin Kai Soo's Lego Star Wars Flower Pot

The little details really stand out. The choice of plants in each plot is spot on. The knobby roots for the little Hobbits to hide behind. The mossy and lush plants recreating the Forest Moon of Endor. And, the tiny and in scale plants outside the dinner from the Simpsons movie. The other details are great too. The skeleton Stormtrooper and the hungry crocodile fit in perfectly.

These Lego flower pots have been proposed as a project over on Lego Ideas. Go check them out, and vote for them. Other ideas have been proposed, such as Life of Pi, and Jack and the Beanstalk. You can find more photos featuring construction and water flow allowences.
