Top Gear Season 22 Trailer Has Gone Full Lego

Lego Top Gear Video

It is no surprise to see Lego and Top Gear working together. One of the hosts of Top Gear, James May, built a  full house out of Lego in Surrey. Although it didn’t work out as hoped, millions of Lego bricks were donated to charity after the house was destroyed. Now there is a full trailer for the new season of Top Gear, season 22, animated in 3D Lego. Seeing various cars rendered in Lego, including a 3 wheeler is fun. It works so well that it is a shame that season 22 is not entirely done in Lego.

“The chaps have been turned into LEGO for a new trailer. Stop what you’re doing and watch.

Jeremy is fast asleep, Richard has been cut in half, James has only gone and lost his hair, and The Stig’s body is missing. Suffice to say, then, just another normal day in the world of Top Gear.

In this behind-the-scenes clip, we can reveal exactly what goes on just before the boys appear on your televisual screens to present your favouritest motoring programme in the world. In a parallel LEGO Universe, that is. Yes, the chaps behind the world-renowned sticky bricks have helped us whip up an exclusive LEGO video.”

Meet the Lego Elves, Step Through the Portal This Spring

Lego Elves Logo

Lego has a new theme arriving this spring called the Lego Elves. Some of the first sets have already been revealed, but the Lego marketing is just starting to take off. The official Lego site has a teaser page up, promising more details in March 2015. Meanwhile some short videos have started to appear around the internet. Featuring  some beautifully animated videos, it would not be a surprise if the Lego Elves had their own cartoon (like Ninjago or Legends of Chima). Interestingly, there is very little Lego in these first videos.

Lego Elves Characters

The Lego Elves look like they would fit right in with the Disney Fairies. Seeing as Lego has been creating Disney themed Friends sets, it would be interesting if the Fairies line had a release too. There are four main Elves (Aira, Naida, Azari, and Farran) with this release, and one main human (named Emily Jones).

411C: A Beautiful Lego Studio in Lego

Dave Kaleta's 411C Lego Studio

Lego builder Dave Kaleta has created an extremely realistic MOC based on his Lego studio. The project is titled “411C” and is named after the address of the studio space. This is a great workspace, featuring two huge desks, plenty of organized storage, unorganized storage, and even Lego mosaics hanging on the wall. This scene is made all the better by natural lighting and a huge window.

Dave Kaleta's 411C Lego Studio Storage

It is the details that make 411C so lifelike. Notice the glass jars on top of the shelving. The multicolored and differently shaped storage containers in the loft space. The well made mini mosaics. The feet holding up the main desk are especially well done, as is the slightly askew handles on the drawers. The desk chair is another great build, with a great use of a Lego propeller for the casters.

Dave Kaleta's 411C Lego Studio Desk

This Lego studio is part of a series of autobiographical builds. It is extremely detailed, and is a great way to show off a unique artistic studio space. Check out all the details over on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/davekaleta/15276376986/

And, to see just how close this is to the actual studio. Check out the short video below:

A Lego Star Wars Posable AT-ST

hobocamp's Lego Star Wars Posable AT-ST

Lego has made at least two versions of the Star Wars AT-ST and each has their own unique problems. The AT-ST (7657) is a Minifigure scale walker that is just plain ugly. Lego has also released an Ultimate Collector’s Imperial AT-ST (10174) which looks great but is much larger then previous AT-ST. It is way too large to display with Lego Minifigures. There is a great demand to have an accurate representation of the AT-ST that is appropriately sized to the Star Wars Minifigs. Over on Lego Ideas, user hobocamp has proposed a project for a fully posable AT-ST. The walker has a surprisingly large range of motion, thanks to its ball jointed legs, and is sturdy enough to stand on its own.

Lego Ideas First 2014 Review Results: Birds, Big Bang

http://youtu.be/DiX7Q5_TTjo

Lego has finally posted the results of the first 2014 Lego Ideas review. For all the projects that didn’t pass (Lego Apple Store, Back to the Future Train), Lego said nothing. The good news is that one of the best Lego Ideas (Cuusoo) projects has been approved. The Lego Birds will be an official Lego set. These little guys are super cute, and are a great way to introduce the spherical building techniques. to new Lego builders. It is interesting to see Lego go back and forth with licensed sets and original ideas.

Lego Ideas, Lego Birds

Lego also announced another winner for this review. In a surprising announcement Lego revealed that the Big Bang Theory will be an official set. This opens up a whole new theme in Lego Ideas. Current television properties.  This could be the beginning of a tidal wave of projects based on popular culture. The proposed Big Bang Theory project has a whole lot of references to science fiction, and comic books. Lets hope that these details make into the final product.

Lego Ideas, Big Bang Theory

Not only did Lego announce two winners in the first 2014 review, but they also teased us with two projects that are still pending. The Doctor Who projects are still being considered. Since Lego announced that the license is available, it seems that these have a good chance at approval. The biggest problem is probably figuring out what direction to take the project and who to credit for the idea.

Lego Minecraft 2015 Unboxing, Review, and Building Videos

Evantubehd's Lego Minecraft 2015 Crafting Box Review

Lego seems to be doing something a little different this time around. With their new Lego Minecraft 2015 (Minifigure Scale) theme they have been releasing sets early to the fan community for reviews. That is completely normal. What is different is that instead of the usual sites getting the exclusive reviews (which normally focus on the AFOL scene), Lego has sent sets out to sites that target to a younger crowd, and famous Minecraft fans. It seems that Lego understands there are two completely different markets for Lego Minecraft. What is also cool, is that these lucky people are creating really slick video reviews. Here we have EvanTubeHD reviewing most of the upcoming Lego Minecraft 2015 sets. It seems that The Ender Dragon (21117) and The Cave (21113) are still pending review. These sets look a lot bigger when they are finished then expected. I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more Minecraft stuff from Lego in the future…

The Mind of a Lego Artist, A Lego Sculpture

Kristal's Lego Artist Sculpture, The Artist

Most Lego creations are a form of art, but some strive to be a little something more. This Lego sculpture, titled Inside the Mind of a Lego Artist, is the creation of Kristal. This is a kinetic sculpture that can almost qualify as an Automaton. The feature here is that the human head can open up and reveal an inner working of the mind. A place of imagination and wonder. Which is an explosion of color when compared to the outer white shell.

Make sure to check out the video below. The opening of the mind is a great surprise, and features some slick work with pulleys and gears. The second half of the video goes into the details of the technical system created.

The Hobbit Shortened to 72 Seconds, and in Lego

Lego The Hobbit Shortened To 72 Seconds, Brotherhood Workshop

Some people out there think that 3 films is 2 films too many for the Hobbit. Well this video is for them. The Hobbit in 72 Seconds is the creation of the Brotherhood Workshop. As they helpfully point out, this is only 33,000ish seconds shorter than Peter Jackson’s version. They manage to fit in all of the major scenes, from the Unexpected Gathering to the Battle of Five Armies. It should be pointed out that there are massive spoilers here. This extremely well made video features special effect, brick built scenes, and full voice overs. Not only that but they managed to throw in a little something special at the end. Check it out!

“Holy Guacamole” a Lego Batman Movie is in Production

The Lego Movie, Lego Batman Movie

It has been announced that Lego and Warner Bros. have fast-tracked a spinoff based on The Lego Movie starring Batman. The animation supervisor from The Lego Movie, Chris McKay, has been set to direct. With Seth Grahame-Smith (known for Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, and Dark Shadows) as screenwriter. Will Arnett is back as Batman, and Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller back as producers. The presumed release will be in 2017, which is probably pushing The Lego Movie 2 into 2018.

In the mean time, check out this video of Batman getting ready for his role in The Lego Movie. Maybe he will be more prepared for his film.

The Slave I, A Massive New Lego Star Wars Ship Revealed (75060)

Lego Star Wars Slave I, 75060 Box

Recently at BrickCon, Lego revealed its newest entry into the Lego Star Wars Ultimate Collectors Series (UCS) will be the iconic Slave I (75060). This new set will feature 1,996 pieces and will retail for around $199.99. This is the set that almost every Star Wars fan has always wanted. It will include a Boba Fett, Han Solo (and Carbonite version), Bespin guard, and Stormtooper Minifigures.

Lego Star Wars Slave I, 75060 Profile

Best of all the scale of this ship feels right, the set doesn’t feel too large or too small. It is officially in the Minifigure scale. The photos can be a little misleading, but this is a huge spaceship. Easily the size of a small dog, or baby.

Lego Star Wars Slave I, 75060 Minifigures

The Slave I is a modded Firespray-31 class attack craft, famously used by Boba Fett, and Jango Fett. The design of the model is a good compromise of the SNOT style and more typical Lego style. Most of the exposed studs act as a sort of texture, giving the Slave I a well used appearance. This is certainly not a brand new star fighter.

Lego Star Wars Slave 1, 75060 Ship

Lego designed the model to work in both configurations, the vertical and horizontal positions. The wings and cockpit can both rotate to fit whatever position Boba Fett is flying. Which is a really sleek feature for this set.

The version of Boba Fett is exclusive to this UCS, as is the Bespin Guard. Also included is Han Solo, a Carbonite version of Han Solo, and a standard Storm Trooper.
