Going On Holiday With Lego

Getting Carried Away on Holiday, Lego MOC

This is “Getting Carried Away on Holiday” a Lego creation built by Ted Andes. A humorous scene with a bunch of out-of-towners getting caught up in some sheep. There is a lot going on here. The European style cottage is a great build on its own. With a gray sloped roof and very clean white walls. The white Lego snake piece used for chimney smoke is a great detail. The farm grounds, and the small street in front look like the proper scale. And the herd of sheep are great. These little animals have exposed studs recreating their wool fur. A great example of using texture in a Lego build. The best detail might just be the brick built background. With giant 3D clouds and an ocean horizon, it helps establish the rest of the scene. The barge in perspective is just genius.

Shaun At The Sheepyard

Shaun At The Sheepyard - Lego MOC

Shaun the Sheep is hanging out with his friends at this Lego Sheepyard. Shaun is the star of his own television show which first aired in 2007. Although you can find Shaun starring in the Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave short film all the way back in 1995. This Lego Sheepyard is creation of Piotr. Featuring six completely unique sheep. Each one is a different shape, and has various head details. The pink bow, and the hedge fence in the background are both great details. This is a very cute Lego MOC. The only thing missing from this flock is a sheep dog. Specifically Bitzer.

A Close Shave With Shaun, Wallace & Gromit

A Close Shave With Shaun, Wallace & Gromit, Lego MOC

After a mishap in the kitchen with breakfast Wallace and Gromit are ready to wash windows and save the day. It’s been a busy day, meeting a very hungry sheep named Shaun. The robot dog Preston is up to no good and Wendolene will need to be saved. Good thing they have a fast motorcycle. This “A Close Shave” Lego MOC is built by grubaluk and hides a nice surprise. This Lego build is an actual working RC Motorcycle. I’m sure Gromit doesn’t mind, but he is sharing the sidecar with a the motor. The Lego RC motorcycle can go forward, and make turns. To help sell the illusion that Wallace is driving, a clever system of gears and strings attach his arms to the handlebars. The rest of the Lego work is great too. The studs being used to represent a rough wool sweater is a great detail. As are the Lego snakes, and wool hat used for details on Gromits face. They motorcycle looks good too! But is it fast enough for Lego Wallace and Gromit to save the day from the malfunctioning Preston?

The Chinese Lego Lion Dance (Barongsai)

Donna Liem's Lego Chinese Lion Dance

Get ready to ring in the lunar new year. The year of the sheep (goat, ram) has officially started. If you happen to see any giant Lions dancing, make sure to join in the fun. Those Lions are hungry for green. Flickr user, Donna Liem, has created four “Barongsai in action” Lego scenes. Featuring the traditional Lion Dance, with drummers, and even an old lady feeding the lion. Barongsai is the Indonesian word for the Chinese Lion dance (採青).

The four Lego Lions are all distinctively different. There are two red and yellow Lions, a black and yellow Lion, and a black and white Lion. Interestingly the Black Lion is the youngest of all the Lions.

There is also another series titled the Chinese Lion Dance (採青), which features the same four Lions but in a more simplified display. These guys look awesome. Check out the different ways the eyes have been used to show their personalities. Each one is extremely similar but they are all different too. Check out the red Lego mug being used to connect the eyes to the body in the second Lion. Gung Hei Fat Choy.

Spend the Year of the Sheep with a Lego Shaun the Sheep

ArzLan's Lego Shaun The Sheep

Spend the year of the Sheep with everybody’s favorite Shaun the Sheep. Shaun stars in his own animated TV Show, which in turn is a spin off of  Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave. This cute Lego vignette shows the titular sheep hanging out with a much more angry looking sheep. Maybe it needs to be shorn? Which, in Lego would mean removing a couple of plates? No matter, these two sheep are excellent builds.

New Lego Minecraft 2015, Minifigure Scale Sets

New Lego Minecraft 2015 The Farm and The Cave

The Lego Minecraft theme has been one of the most successful lines. The first few Micro World sets capture the spirit and look of the super popular video game, but the tiny Lego pieces and small size were deterrents to the smallest Lego Minecraft fans (and people with large fingers). The good news is the there is a whole new theme for Lego Minecraft coming in 2015. There will be 6 sets in this release, including a super interesting Crafting Box. This new style of playset reminds me of the more imagination friendly Brick Boxes. This is a really interesting direction to explore, and it will more then likely prove to be very popular.

The Farm (21114)

Happy Lego Lunar New Year

ryouta22's Lego Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year. The year of the Horse is ready to begin. Flickr user Ryoutachan22 posted this super cute collection of the 12 Zodiac signs. Believe it or not, these were built by a 7 year old. Which, puts my own building skills to shame. These cute animals are a great example of how much variety you can achieve with only one shape (sphere).

Can you can match up the Rat, Cow, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Bird, Dog, and Boar with their Lego representation?
