Lego Ideas, Birds (21301) Official Details

Lego Ideas Birds 21301 Box

Lego has recently announced the results of their 2014 Lego Ideas Review. During the video they mentioned that a Lego Birds set would be released in 2015. Just a few weeks later and we now have official images. The Lego Birds will feature 3 of the most common birds. A Blue Jay, Hummingbird and Red Robin. The whole set features 580 pieces and will be released in January 2015. The whole package will retail for about $44.99, not a common price point for Lego. The price to piece ratio is looking really good here. Just a little under 8¢ a piece.

Interestingly, Lego has posted an interview with the project’s creator, Tom Poulsom. The interview has some interesting comments about the design and marketing of this Lego Ideas project. Lets see if Lego will publish more of these interviews on future projects.

“TC: What inspired you to build this model and put it on LEGO Ideas?

TP: The majority of my creations have been replicas of man-made objects (cars, trucks and spaceships) I wanted to build something different, creating something to look organic seemed like a nice challenge. I have always loved nature and being a tree surgeon and gardener I get a lot of inspiration from my job. I was digging a vegetable patch one day and during a quick break I noticed a Robin land on my fork handle. This was the inspiration behind “Bobby the Robin”. I built him that evening and enjoyed building this bird so much that I decided to build some of my favorite birds from Europe. Once I had built seven birds I posted one a day on Flickr. They were a hit! I couldn’t believe the attention I received. A follower suggested I add the birds to LEGO Ideas and here I am now with an official LEGO set containing my Idea.” — Lego Ideas

Lego Scooby Dooby Doo, Where Are You?

Lego Scooby Doo Rumors

If there was one theme I was not expecting to hear rumors that Lego would produce, its Scooby Doo. It seems that Lego has been working on a spooky theme, and now its seems an official Lego Scooby Doo theme is the top contender for this release. This new theme would be hitting shelves around May or June of 2015, and will consist of 4 sets. It seems that the iconic Mystery Van, a Haunted House, and two unknown sets are in the works. With the whole gang represented in Minifigure form. Fred, Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, Daphne, and Velma. Also expect to see a few of the monsters represented. I wonder if they will be regular Minifigures wearing costumes? Because that would be fun.

Hothbricks reported on a Lego Scooby Doo theme first. Their user Miniworld seems to be confirming rumors too: http://www.hothbricks.com/2014/11/rumeurs-2015-grande-roue-nouveau-theme/#comments

New Details. The Detective’s Office, a Lego Creator Modular Building (10246)

Lego Creator Detective's Office 10246 Modular Building

The new Detective’s Office Modular Building (10246) is getting ready for release, and the back of the box has been leaked. The front of the box and the first details were leaked just a few days ago. This Modular is looking good. The Detective’s Office will be two-stories, and the Barber Shop will be three-stories. The little details look great, there is an emergency escape from the Office, some wanted posters, a safe full of money, mirrors in the Barber Shop, a pool room, an old style toilet, and a full apartment above the shop. It looks like your Minifigures can get into a lot of adventures here.

The Lego Creator Detective’s Office (10246) will contain 2,262 pieces and be available around January of 2015. Some more information is here: http://everydaybricks.com/detectives-office-new-lego-modular-building-10246-revealed/

Lego Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 (2015) Leaked Images

Lego Simpsons Series 2, Groundskeeper Willie, Production

There have been strong rumors going around that Lego was in production of a Series 2 for the Lego Simpsons Minifigures. There might also be a new Lego Kwik-E-Mart set in production. One of these rumors can now be confirmed. The Lego Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 will be released in 2015, and a few images of their production models have been leaked. No one was sure if the Lego Simpsons Minifigures would make it to Series 2, which was dependent on fan reception and sales of Series 1.

Lego Simpsons Series 2, Dr Hibbert, Production

It looks like The Simpsons theme is a success, and we can probably expect a few more releases in the future. Series 1 left a lot of gaps in The Simpsons character roster. Lego must have a hard time trying to select Minifigs out of the hundreds of characters from The Simpsons. Groundskeeper Willie, Dr. Hibbert, and Santa’s Little Helper will be in Series 2. Hopefully we can get a Moe Sizlack, Waylon Smithers, Carl Carlson, Lenny Leonard, Sideshow Bob, Mayor Quimby… the list goes on and on.

Lincoln Memorial & Flatiron Building: 2015 Lego Architecture Sets

2015 Lego Architecture, Lincoln Memorial (21022)

For the past few years now Lego has been releasing about 4 official Architecture sets a year, with a few special exemptions (Marina Bay Sands, The Lego House). With that in mind it has been revealed that the first new sets released in 2015 for the Lego Architecture theme will be the Lincoln Memorial and the Flatiron Building. The first new set is the Lincoln Memorial (21022) which will be built with 274 Lego pieces. Making this an extremely small build, especially compared to the previously released White House. The price point is not known yet, but should be somewhere between $19.99 and $29.99.

The next new Lego Architecture set for 2015 will be the Flatiron Building (21023). This one is a lot more obscure then the Lincoln Memorial. This is a triangular skyscraper located in New York City. The Lego version does its best to replicate this building, using some funky connection techniques to achieve the weird angles. This set will include 471 Lego pieces, and should be priced somewhere between $39.99 and $49.99.

Keep and eye out for these. Lego Architecture sets have a habit of sneaking onto shelves without anyone noticing. Then selling out, because they are extremely popular.

Lego Ideas First 2014 Review Results: Birds, Big Bang

http://youtu.be/DiX7Q5_TTjo

Lego has finally posted the results of the first 2014 Lego Ideas review. For all the projects that didn’t pass (Lego Apple Store, Back to the Future Train), Lego said nothing. The good news is that one of the best Lego Ideas (Cuusoo) projects has been approved. The Lego Birds will be an official Lego set. These little guys are super cute, and are a great way to introduce the spherical building techniques. to new Lego builders. It is interesting to see Lego go back and forth with licensed sets and original ideas.

Lego Ideas, Lego Birds

Lego also announced another winner for this review. In a surprising announcement Lego revealed that the Big Bang Theory will be an official set. This opens up a whole new theme in Lego Ideas. Current television properties.  This could be the beginning of a tidal wave of projects based on popular culture. The proposed Big Bang Theory project has a whole lot of references to science fiction, and comic books. Lets hope that these details make into the final product.

Lego Ideas, Big Bang Theory

Not only did Lego announce two winners in the first 2014 review, but they also teased us with two projects that are still pending. The Doctor Who projects are still being considered. Since Lego announced that the license is available, it seems that these have a good chance at approval. The biggest problem is probably figuring out what direction to take the project and who to credit for the idea.

Lego Minecraft 2015 Unboxing, Review, and Building Videos

Evantubehd's Lego Minecraft 2015 Crafting Box Review

Lego seems to be doing something a little different this time around. With their new Lego Minecraft 2015 (Minifigure Scale) theme they have been releasing sets early to the fan community for reviews. That is completely normal. What is different is that instead of the usual sites getting the exclusive reviews (which normally focus on the AFOL scene), Lego has sent sets out to sites that target to a younger crowd, and famous Minecraft fans. It seems that Lego understands there are two completely different markets for Lego Minecraft. What is also cool, is that these lucky people are creating really slick video reviews. Here we have EvanTubeHD reviewing most of the upcoming Lego Minecraft 2015 sets. It seems that The Ender Dragon (21117) and The Cave (21113) are still pending review. These sets look a lot bigger when they are finished then expected. I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more Minecraft stuff from Lego in the future…

Pablo Picasso’s Guernica in Lego

Veronica Watson's Lego Picasso's Guernica

It is Pablo Picasso’s 133rd birthday today, and in celebration Veronica Watson recreated Picasso’s Guernica in Lego. Using just 800 black, gray, and white Lego bricks. The biggest difference is the size, the Lego version is 7 inches by 14.5 inches; while the original Picasso is an impressive 137 inches by 305 inches. All the main details are represented. The bull, the horse, the eyeball like light, and the various tortured humans are all recreated in Lego. Veronica Watson is a Lego Master Model Builder from Legoland Discovery Center Westchester.
