The Thousand Sunny, A Lego One Piece MOC

The Thousand Sunny (サウザンドサニー号) is a pirate ship belonging to The Straw Hat Pirates. Appearing in the anime and manga titled One Piece. It features a green lawn planted on the deck, a lion for a figurehead (often mistaken for a sunflower or the sun), a slide, a swing, a library, and an observation tower. All of the details have been replicated here in this MOC created Alex Jones, titled Thousand Sunny. The super vibrant colors, gigantic cartoon style logo on the sails, and huge figurehead really make this design stand out from all other Lego Pirate Ships. If you look carefully you can spot a custom Lego Monkey D. Luffy (Straw Hat) standing on the deck.

A Lego Playstation 2 Microbuild

The original Playstation 2 was a monster of a game system. It managed to be heavy, somewhat fragile, expensive accessories, and difficult to find (at least at launch). The good news is that now you can recreate this legendary system with only 6 Lego bricks, at a cost of around (60¢). Sure it cannot play Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2, or Grand Theft Auto but it also doesn’t cost $299. Kelseybuildslego created this Lego Playstation 2 Microbuild with an almost perfect eye for minimalism. The double clip Lego piece will now forever be a PS2 controller in my mind. The single detail that makes this whole thing work is the two blue Lego wedges representing the vertical stand. Well done.

StarkLab: Helmet Rapair. A Slick Lego Iron Man MOC.

“Tony’s helmet had been malfunctioning lately so he brought it out to make some repairs.”

Small Lego vignettes are super popular right now. There is a certain charm about creating a tiny set for your favorite Minifigures. Vlad Hernandez took his recent Lego Iron Man themed StarkLab: Helmet Repair display to another level by adding multiple light sources. There are a total of 4 LEDs embedded in an 8×8 stud space. The most impressive is the customized Tony Stark Minifigure, where the LEDs help show off that embedded Arc Reactor. Iron Man’s helmet and 2 gizmos are also lit up. Now if only someone could take this level of care creating some sort of super Hall of Armor.

A Lego Black Seas Barracuda (6285) Mini

Lego has a few sets that will forever be remembered. Each of the Lego themes have had a few of such sets over the decades. For Lego Pirates the most famous set is the Black Seas Barracuda (6285) from 1989. There was even a rerelease in 2002 called Black Seas Barracuda (10040) which had a few different pieces, but ultimately looked the same. These two sets are 13 years apart. Applying this information to today, it would mean that 2015 is due for another release. Maybe a mini Barracuda could happen. This example has been created by Bangoo H. The Mini Black Seas Barracuda has perfectly built brick sails, two mini pirate flags, and even some basic rigging. Everything about the original is represented here, even anchor. Maybe someday we will see an official Lego Mini Barracuda… maybe.

The Cutest Lego Mini Power Loader, From Aliens

The Power Loader from Aliens is one of those perfect designs for Lego. All sorts of attempts have been made, in all sorts of sizes. The newest, and maybe cutest is the Mini Power Loader, created by Grantmasters. The goal was to create a Power Loader that get close to the Minifigure scale. This is a great example of non-standard Lego techniques being used to create something awesome. Check out Ripley’s legs, they have been pulled off the standard Lego legs. This lets Ripley and the Power Loader pose in many more dynamic positions. Which will come in handy when fighting Alien Queens.

Shoot ‘n Loot with this Lego Claptrap from Borderlands

Are you waiting for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel to download? Excited to butt stomp the moon, and bound through low gravity? Ready to hear Handsome Jack’s side of the story? Then you should be just as excited about these Lego Claptrap units created by Jerac. These three robots showcase some extremely impressive Lego skills. Check out how those arms are created, with a combination of levers and technic pins. And, admire the subtle sloping geometry. It is a wonder that it is all held together. One thing is certain, these Claptraps are dangerously fragile (physically and mentally).

Sign of the Times: Failure of the Fourth Estate

Sometimes you see something that you know will be the inspiration for many in the AFOL (Adult Fans of Lego) community. This MOC, called Sign of the Times is one of those that deserve renown. Created by Mike Doyle, Sign of the Times shows off a most impressive technique for building Lego smoke. Smoke is one of the toughest things to create out of Lego, typically the hard shapes and overall blockiness do not render the billowing clouds very well. What really sells this, is the combination of transparent pieces, and the color palette (only 8 colors!). Plus the decision to contrast the organic smoke with a very geometric building.

A Very Impressive Lego Batman Batcave – Dark Knight Rises

The recent Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, is one of the most memorable. The dark themes and design make this one of the most gritty versions of Batman. Completely skipping the overt campiness (and imagination) of the Tim Burton films. The Batcave is one of the most popular themes for a MOC. It is really difficult to stand out from the crowd, but Brent Waller has created something special with his Lego Dark Knight Rises Batcave.

In order to make a more awesome display, some liberties were taken with the layout. The waterfall and a few platforms have been moved in order to make the display more viewable. Most of the most popular Rogues Gallery villains have been hidden around the Batcave. Bane, Catwoman, Joker, Ras Al Ghul, Scarecrow, Talia Al Ghul, and Two-Face have all found their way in. Maybe Batman should install a security system.

The Sea Hawk, a Magnificent Lego Galleon

“They arrived at the docks and Durstan saw it: his own ship, repainted in the King’s colours but as proud as when he’d last seen it quarter of a century ago.

The King himself was there to see them off. Durstan swore his loyalty and promised to do what he could to restore order. And then they took to sea, and finally he was homeward-bound again.”

The Sea Hawk is one of the most grand Lego galleons ever built. It is a large Minifigure scale MOC ship. The overall shape, size, and volume of this ship is spot on. It also features custom sails, and detailed rigging. The end result is amazing. It also shows how some solid Photoshop skills can make an MOC even more believable.

The Sea Hawk is the first MOC created by Janjy Giggins. Which is going to be hard to top with future builds.

The Neo-Blacktron Alienator: A reboot of Lego set 6876

“You cannot hide, Federation!”

If one Lego theme could sum up the 1980’s it would be Blacktron. Jeremy Williams has created the Alienator, a Neo-Blacktron reboot of official Alienator (6876) from 1988. The iconic black and yellow color scheme, the laser gridded star field, and the clunky design is all perfectly represented. The first thing to be updated were the swinging skies which are now four hydraulic legs. One of the best features of this walker is the hidden Pulse Generator hidden in the central body.
