In one of the weirder marketing moments of this new year, it has been revealed that the new Lego Batmobile is “built by Chevy.” There is even an official website. It looks like Lego Batman paid $48,000,000 for his new wheels. It has 120,000 lbs. max towing capacity, 20,000 horsepower, and comes equipped with 4G-LTE connectivity. Also listed as features are flame rocket boosters, fully-articulated wheels, and a standard 60.2L V100 engine. The Batmobile can operate in three modes. Race Mode, Monster Truck Mode, and Parallel Park Mode. The only downside… it seats 2 Minifigures.

Back in 2012 the Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences built an automated Lego Mindstorms Bridge Layer. The Bridge Layer is some sort of truck that carries a folded up bridge. When it comes across a gap it can unfold the bridge, and travel over the gap. Once across, the truck then picks up the bridge, folds it up, and moves on. The Department of Electrical Engineering built this robot with Lego Mindstorms 2.0. It has been programmed with Robot C, and it communicates using Bluetooth. On board there are 4 servo motors, 2 linear actuators, 2 ultrasonic sensors, 2 touch sensors, and 2 color sensors. This stout Lego Mech is called the TwinBee, and is the creation of rongYIREN. The TwinBee is an homage or recreation of the ship from the NES/SNES video game. A series that started way back in 1985 in Japan, and seems to still be going with an iOS / Android release in 2013 titled Line GoGo! TwinBee. This homage manages to keep the arms, which are essential for dropping bombs. The Lego version has some awesome jets, large enough to outrun anything else. People do crazy things when they are late for work. Lego people are no different. Check out this Lego MOC by P Squiddy titled Late for the job! It is a perfect example of taking a solid MOC and creating a story around it. This isn’t just a flying car in the near/distant future, but a story being told about that future. The whole thing is achieved with minimal details, a few reactionary Minifigures is all it takes.
The Lego Friends seem to be going on adventures all the time. From fishing to spaceship flying; they even find time to relax in lovely hotels. Their newest adventure is exploring the universe, in a little space rover. Featuring a purple and white striped satellite dish, multiple communications equipment, fancy headlights, and even four-wheel drive. This Lego Friends Adventure Space Rover looks ready to explore the moon or even pluto. Check out the Lego Minifigure helmet, it fits on the Lego Friends figures!
All of your Lego Friends characters need a place too eat. If you don’t have enough time to sit down for lunch; having a quick and convenient option is awesome. This Taco Truck, known as the Marisco El Lago, is ready to satisfy your hunger. The specialize in fish tacos, which is why they like to park near the rowboat club near Heartlake. Most of the details are perfect. The white and gray trash cans are simple and recognizable. The tuck comes with portable seating, and even offers multiple food options. The Food Truck even has those glass/plastic vents/windows on the roof. Also check out those Friends figure mirrors being used for the truck side mirrors. All of your Hipster Friends are ready for some Tacos!

This is the Y-3 Walker Mech and it’s Pilot. It looks like it has been built out of broken machinery, but it is completely made up of Lego. This creation could fit in perfectly with the world of Mad Max. Scavenging the desert waste lands, looking for any oil or scrap. The unnamed Pilot is the real star of this show. Using a variety of obscure Lego pieces, Minifigure accessories, and inventive SNOT techniques, this guy (or gal) looks more organic then most Lego figures. The gas mask is an especially nice build, as is the use of the old Technic gears for the boot cuffs. The other little details are fun too, communicating that this Pilot is a collector of some sort.
A crazy Pilot must have a crazy vehicle. The Walker Mech Y-3 is a chicken style walker barely big enough to carry one person. It has been outfitted with a luxurious orange bucket seat. The whole thing seems to mainly serve as a place to store knick knacks. Check out the boombox, coffee mug, road signs, and even Mia’s signature. This thing is full of awesome detail.
The Crystal Voyager is ready to cruise across the moon in style. This space buggy is the creation of Flickr user Karf Oohlu. They found a great use for the various Lego clear spheres. Even the most obscure, and seemingly useless Lego piece can be used creatively with a little imagination. The tiny T. Rex style hands are a nice touch too. Perfect for taking samples of moon rocks. The Crystal Voyager is a great example of retro futurism, just make sure your classic Lego spaceman has a lot of Tang, and freeze-dried ice cream for his journey. Hey, maybe he is listening to Journey too.
Lego recently revealed the massive SHIELD Helicarrier (76042) will be almost 3,000 pieces, with a $349.00 price tag. It can be really difficult to imagine the size of the larger Lego sets, and the box artwork doesn’t help. Chris McVeigh (Powerpig), of A Side of Ham, has created a really nifty comparison between the Helicarrier and some of the other large Lego releases. So in the end, it looks like the Helicarrier = 3 Modulars wide. Whoa.
There have been rumors for a few months that Lego would be releasing a SHIELD Helicarrier (and many huge Lego Ideas projects). It is not a rumor anymore, Lego has just announced the Lego Super Heroes, The SHIELD Helicarrier (76042) from the Avengers film will be released soon. The biggest problem about such a set is the scale, it is just so large that what everyone wants is just not a feasible release. It would be either too big or too small. What we get here is an amalgamation of a few scales in order to best represent the massive flying fortress. Interestingly, there is a whole set of Minifigures, and Microfigures (Mini-Minifigures).
The Helicarrier will include 2,996 pieces, and will retail for about $349.99. It will be available on March 1st. Just in time for the Avengers: Age of Ultron film in May.
This thing is huge. It is 2 1/2 feet long (31″ or 80cm) long and almost almost 1 foot tall (11″ or 29cm). The included Quinjets are a nice touch; even if they are way out of scale. The tinnier Fighter Jets fit in much better but are less recognizable. This seems like a good compromise, by including both Lego is giving you options for how to display this.
Even though this is not the typical kids playset, Lego has still included a handful of play features. The engine rotors are internally connected and can be turned with just one handle movement. The top deck, runway, can be removed to reveal a fully featured bridge. Both of these features can be connected with the Lego Power Functions, which will light up the interior and spin the engines automatically.
One of the coolest details is the fully detailed bridge. With the Microfigures it is looking semi-accurate to the film version.
There are 12 Microfigures! 4 of the main heroes and 8 SHIELD agents. These are a great way to incorporate the characters into the Helicarrier without being too far out of scale. Interestingly, the two female characters that are included as Minifigures are not represented as Microfigures. The good news is that SHIELD Agent Maria Hill gets an exclusive Minifigure here. Hopefully she won’t stay exclusive for too long…
