Bricksy: Lego Banksy Photography by The Brick Fantastic

TheBrickFantastic Lego Banksy, Pulp Fiction Bananas

“Never bring a gun to a fruit fight.”

Banksy is well know for his graffiti art, activism, directing and painting. So well known that his most famous works are being recreated in Lego. The Brick Fantastic has produced 20 different Lego Banksy vignettes based on the artists work. These are expertly made images. A great deal of work went into recreating each scene, with lighting and backgrounds that do their best to create a believable Lego world. These vignettes are also good example of using perspective and depth-of-field in your Lego photography.

You can even buy prints of your favorite pieces.

Cool Lego Ice Planet 2002 Art by Mr–Jack

Lego Ice Planet 2002, Mr--Jack

Ice Planet is one of the odd 1990’s space themes. It first showed up in 1993, and its cool blue and orange color palette was a huge change when compared to the previous space theme, Space Police II. Commander Cold and his research team had to withstand the hostile planet of Krysto. Equipped with trans-orange chainsaws, the most bad ass weapon Lego has ever molded, the team set out to science.

Even though Ice Planet only lasted one year it managed to make a huge impression on many people. Mr–Jack recently created this amazing painting, inspired by this cool Lego theme.  The giant research vehicle in the background is impressive.

Lego Star Wars Relativity

Paul Vermeesch Lego Star Wars Relativity

M.C. Escher created one of the most memorable works of art in 1953, titled Relativity. Since then there have been hundreds of representations of this work by other artists. This Lego Star Wars version of Relativity is the work of Paul Vermeesch. He has created this gravity defying and perspective distorting work completely out of Lego. It is completely seamless and the SNOT techniques used here are flawless. In fact, I don’t think there is one errant stud present. Lego Star Wars Relativity sums up the original Trilogy in roughly six scenes. The puzzling nature of this is amazing.

An Awesome Lego Classic Space Jacket

EvilMadScientist's Lego Classic Space Flight Jacket 01

The Lego Classic Space Logo is an icon for everything Lego did right in the 1980’s. It is extremely recognizable, and embodies the optimism that the world was going through at the time. It seemed that through the 1990’s Lego was quick to forget this. Going from a classical space exploration theme into something more extreme. Since then there has been a resurgence in this classic theme. Lego has even recognized this trend, and has been making references to its popularity. One can only hope a full theme will land in the future.

Evil Mad Scientist has recently created a hand painted Classic Space jacket featuring the Lego Classic Space Logo. The beautiful simplicity of the logo means that this is a relatively easy project to do yourself. Evil Mad Scientist has included detailed step by step instructions.

The use of stencils and leather paints means that almost anyone can create one of these flight jackets. The whole project can be finished up in a few days. If you happen to have an old leather jacket around then this turns into a pretty cheap project.

“Lets Create” with Lego!

Kosmas Santosa's Lets Create

Lego can be used for all sorts of things. From building Star Wars spaceships to Wild West wagons. Whether or not you are building an official Lego set from instructions or building something from the deep recesses of your mind, Lego lets you create. Kosmas Santosa created an inspiring MOC that pays tribute to the creativity of Lego. This is technically perfect. With spot on lighting, and precise placement. Everything here is in support of the message. It doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, but sit down and make something.

“Brick Patrol I” by Peter Fendrik, Lego Star Wars 3D Art

PeterFendrik's Brick Patrol 3D Lego Star Wars by Peter Fendrik

There are a couple of (internet) famous art pieces done involving Lego. One of those is “Brick Patrol I” by Peter Fendrik. This 3D Lego Star Wars render is almost perfect. The composition works well, the depth of field is great, and the color are vibrant. This is how everyone imagines their Lego bricks while building. What really makes this are the two Lego built planets in the background. These Lego Stormtroopers make a perfect desktop background.

Lego Batman: The Video Game: Lego Cake

Elisa Strauss's Lego Batman Video Game Lego Cake, Photo by William Eng

Lego Batman: the Video Game: the Cake sure looks delicious. Designed and baked by Elisa Strauss, www.confetticakes.com, for the official Lego Batman: The Video Game launch party. Luckily, William Eng was there to capture this beautiful Lego cake before it was eaten. Featuring Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Catwoman, the Joker, Harley Quinn, and the Riddler as fondant minifigures. The cake itself is red velvet.

I Spy … a Pie!

eilonwy77's I Spy, A Pie

“I spy a pie, a monster’s green legs,
Six butterflies and a bird that lays eggs.
A turtle, a clam, seven long snakes,
Four forks, three knives, and a pan to bake cakes.”

Katie Walker, aka eilonwy77, of Flickr posted this wonderful Lego image. It is almost a mosaic, and almost a MOC. One thing is for certain, this looks very delicate, and very hard to move around. Using all of these different parts to create an I Spy image is genius. It reminds me of the Hidden Object game in the Highlights magazine.

The Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter – Lego CUUSOO Project

Legend of Zelda, Iron Knuckle Encounter

WesTalbott has proposed a Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter project over at the Lego CUUSOO page. This is not the first time the Legend of Zelda has made an appearance on the CUUSOO page, but it is by far the strongest proposal. Lego has said in the past that a previous Legend of Zelda theme would be too expensive to produce due to the need for custom molds. WesTalbott took that news and created the Iron Knuckle Encounter, which would only require 1-3 custom molds. The most important new mold that would be needed is for Links hat. A new sword and shield would be nice too, but those were not designed to be a requirement.

Having Link fight a brick built bad guy is really fun, and certainly appealing to the AFOL market. And, just look at all those wonderful jars, they are just begging to be broken! The whole set would feature said pots, lots of skulls, rupees, and even a boss key. Even the double sided play set provides a lot of play features, and looks great.

In the last few months a lot of the Lego CUUSOO project proposals have become much more realized, probably a side effect of Kickstarter. The Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter features a lot of artwork to go with the proposal, such as a mock up for a Lego box, and a wonderful poster!

The only problem with a Legend of Zelda theme is acquiring a license. Nintendo has never worked with Lego, and is currently working with K’NEX. Stranger things have happened though. Lets all hope that Link can get the treatment he deserves.

Lego My Eggo by AuntiePesto!

AuntiePesto's Lego My Eggo

Lego art is awesome. Not only does Lego inspire people to go to great lengths to create elaborate builds and MOCs, but it inspires people to create in other mediums too. Starting today Lego doodles, drawings, graffiti, paintings and sculptures will be featured in the new Art category.

Lego and Eggo have gone together since the dawn of time. Recently in the funny weird LeggoMyLegoEggoLeglessLegoLegolas meme. If I was a red Lego Spaceman, I too would float towards a giant Eggo.

Check out Lego My Eggo over at Tumblr, it was drawn by the super cool AuntiePesto. Her site is full of fun doodles. And, according to AuntiePesto, make sure to listen to some Chaka Khan during your future Lego doodles.
