Lego City Undercover Coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, XBox One, & Steam

Lego City Undercover is one of the best Lego video games made. Too bad lot of people haven’t had the chance to play it seeing as it was an exclusive to the Nintendo WiiU. The good news is that TT Games has released some details about the upcoming rerelease. Lego City Undercover will feature improved graphics. It also sounds like the controls and UI will be modified to suit the new platforms. Speaking of which, the game will be released on the new Nintendo Switch, along with the Playstation 4, XBox One, and Steam. That pretty much covers everyone!

Oh yeah, the Switch version will be full of secret Nintendo cameos. I sure hope that means you can ride Yoshi.

Samus Vs Parasite Queen. A Lego Metroid Battle.

It is just a few days away from the 30th anniversary of the famous Nintendo Metroid franchise. The series hero, Samus Aran, has been consistently busy fighting space pirates and aliens. Even though the recent games have left a scotch mark on her reputation. Lego fan Jared has been creating MOCs for over 2 years based on his favorite Metroid games. This newest one is a recreation of the Parasite Queen boss battle. This is also a great example of how much lighting can effect your creations.

“…as I scrolled through the comments section, I noticed one that speculated how cool it would be if I were to build the Parasite Queen from the intro stages of the same game. Well, that was it, I decided I would do at least one more Metroid Prime build before the anniversary. Suffice to say, I got rather over-ambitious in this build and wasn’t able to really finish it like I had planned, but nonetheless, I hope everyone enjoys it all the same (at least the parasite queen looks awesome, I hope).”

The Legend of Zelda, Link’s Hylian Shield – A Lego Mosaic.

Lego and Zelda go together extremely well, so well that there are many epic Lego creations based on the popular video game franchise. The fantasy setting blends well with the Lego Castle theme. An uncountable amount of kids have at one time or another created their own Zelda inspired MOC. A whole lot of Nintendo themes would fit into Lego. Imagine Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and Pokemon. With the recent release of Majora’s Mask, a few more custom creations are probably on their way.

This Lego mosaic of Link’s Hylian Shield is the creation of Briotr. Instead of sticking to a simple grid style Lego mosaic, they combined and used a lot of pieces that can create more natural shapes. This style also acts as a sort of magic eye sort of puzzle. Can you find an alligator, red flag, blue Lego pants, and the $100 bill? Good luck!

Pokemon have some of the most interesting creatures. Here we have an anthropomorphic rock fighting an enemy that is completely made up of programming code. Geodude versus Porygon. Porygon is one of those really weird Pokemon, it just doesn’t fit into the game like the others do. Although there are swords, hearts and keychain looking Pokemon, so maybe it fits in just fine. These two creatures are the creation of Julius von Brunk. Geodude makes good use of sphere building techniques, and by using the printed spiral pieces for eyes, ends up having a lot of personality. Then there is Porygon. Maybe the best candidate for Lego. The simple polygon look is easy enough to replicate, and this version is looking good. Did you know Porygon is also the world’s first artificially created Pokémon? Now you do!

R.O.B. Joins The Battle. A Smash Bros. Lego MOC.

R.O.B. is one of the most well known of the obscure Nintendo characters. This Robotic Operating Buddy originally started out as various pieces of plastic that interfaced with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was a trojan horse, used to get the video game systems onto retailers shelves by marketing the NES as a toy. R.O.B. was quickly abandoned by Nintendo for over a decade. It has found a new home inside the popular video game Smash Bros. UnknownBrick Films created this Lego version of R.O.B. and is quick to point out that it is not their main in Smash. This little guy is made with a whole 16+ pieces. The simple build captures everything you need to know about R.O.B. and is instantly recognizable. Now lets get a whole series of Smash Bros. Lego built!

My First Game Console (Sprite Edition): A Lego NES + Instructions.

A good amount of Lego fans have at one point or another fallen in love with the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES was originally released in 1983 in Japan with red and gold styling. The black and gray system didn’t show up until 1985 in North America and 1986 in Europe. For many people this would be their first video game console. Most kids at the time could be found in front of their TV having an adventure with Link or saving the princess with Mario. A good many of these kids were also enjoying the Lego Classic Space or Castle theme at the same time.

Chris McVeigh (Powerpig) has created a great Lego NES MOC with only 220 pieces. The end result is the main console, two controllers and two games. Perfect for some multiplayer. The cartridges can even be inserted into the NES. Although you may need to blow on them first.

The coolest thing ever, is that Chris McVeigh has provided super detailed instructions for you to build a Lego NES at home. Check out the PDF for a parts list. “I want to be the very best, Like no one ever was…” Pokemon Lego Ash and Misty

Pokémon is still going strong today with the recent release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on the Nintendo 3DS. Even the original Gameboy games are being sought after and collected today by fans. These original games, titled Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, lead to a television show spinoff. The original animated series made its debut in 1998 with a prime after school timeslot. The show took many liberties compared to the Gameboy games. With a whole cast of reappearing characters that were not present in the original games. The two most memorable are Ash, and his friends Misty and Brock. Two of these have been carefully recreated in Lego by lisqr.

Lego Misty is a great SNOT style figure. With her super orange hair and trademarked blue shorts and yellow tanktop her design is spot on. The anime style hair and eyes are especially good. Lego Ash on the other hand is wearing his (oversized) red and white hat. His design allows him to have more articulation then the Misty figure. I can just imagine him hassling a Lego Pikachu.

To get the best impression of these MOCs make sure to play the Pokémon theme song. “I want to be the very best, Like no one ever was…”

“It’s-a me Mario!” – A Super Mario 64 Lego Bob-omb Battlefield

Nintendo wowed the world with the release of Super Mario 64. Defining the genre for 3D platform video games. The very first “level” is the Bob-omb Battlefield. It can be accessed by jumping into the first painting in Princess Peach’s Castle. Featuring a grassy hill with a dry refine that Mario must traverse in order to defeat the boss, “Big Bob-omb.” The Battlefield has many memorable moments, the canon transportation system, the scary Chain Chomp tied up in the center, the boulder chase up the hill, and even a floating island.

All of these details are present in Pepa Quin’s Bob-omb Battlefield. Amazingly, the relatively simple polygon based graphics make the translation into Lego surprisingly well. Although simple looking this is actually a very complicated build. Getting the Lego bricks and plates to fit into the desired angles and looking correct is very difficult. The details are so well done that you may not even notice that the scale of the Bob-omb Battlefield has been reduced.

The Battlefield is littered with Mario’s trademarked enemies. All of which are looking good in Lego. The Chain Chomp and Goombas are oozing charm. Their spherical shape is usually difficult to capture in Lego, but here it has been accomplished. Just look at those Goombas…

Lego, Nintendo 64, Transformers. Mashup.

This Lego Nintendo 64 with Controller, and Donkey Kong 64 and Golden Eye 007 (James Bond) video games sums up a whole lot of childhoods in one image. Baron Julius von Brunk created this great tribute to the last great cartridge system. With some amazing attention to detail. The controller ports on the front of the Nintendo 64 are perfect. There is even a red LED bit on the front, perfect for knowing when you have hit the power or reset buttons (also present!). Not only that, this MOC has that wonky AC adapter, a save cartridge in the controller, and more. It all comes together in a pretty realistic version of a Nintendo 64. Kinda makes you want to boot up an old system and play some multiplayer Golden Eye 007.

But, thats not all. This Nintendo 64 and accessories Lego creation has a secret. It can transform into a variety of robots. For instance the iconic Nintendo 64 controller can turn into a robotic scorpian.

While the Nintendo 64 itself can transform into a deadly robot. With shoulder cannon and magazine (conveniently made from the save pack).

Best of all is the Lego Donkey Kong 64 game. It can transform into a robotic gorilla. Ready to throw barrels and pound the ground. Or maybe just eat a banana.

Lego City: Undercover

If you happen to be one of the lucky few people out there to own a WiiU, Lego City: Undercover is considered one of the best games available. It has been 8 years since TT Games first released Lego Star Wars and many people think that the formula is wearing thin. The co-op action-adventure game does many things right, but the same complaints (wonky camera, bad AI, etc.) have haunted the series for years. And, although these complaints are valid, overall the Lego series of video games are some of the most charming available.

TT Games and TT Fusion surprised many people by creating an open world action-adventure game. Lego City: Undercover is a breath of fresh air. It has successfully merged the gameplay of more adult titles such as Grand Theft Auto into a more friendly package. It is also rare to see a Lego game not based on a licensed property, and this may be the first video game to do one of the core Lego themes justice. Lego City has never been this interesting before.
