BrothersBrick, Lego Lake Town, The Hobbit

Lego has announced a whole boat load of new Lego sets this weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). One of which is the new Lego, The Hobbit: Lake Town Chase (79103). Featuring a boat, and two Lake Town buildings. The set will include 334 pieces and be priced at $49.99; to be released this December. Five minifigures will be included, Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, Bard the Bowman, a generic guard, and the Master of Lake Town. Lego Lake Town looks like an expensive, but well designed set.

Lego Cuusoo: The Lego Back to the Future DeLorean Reviewed @ The Brothers Brick

Lego CUUSOO: Lego Back to the Future DeLorean Reviewd by TheBrothersBrick

The Lego Back to the Future DeLorean (21103) set is here. The official release date has been set for August 1st, but if you happen to be at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) you can purchase it early at the Lego booth. (UPDATE: it is now available on Amazon). Amazingly with a 401 piece count the $34.99 price tag is actually reasonable (the old 10¢ a piece ratio). Being part of the Lego CUUSOO project, this DeLorean features some advanced building techniques and lots of SNOT. Sharing more in common with a MOC then an official Lego set.

Andrew from The Brothers Brick has written up a full review of the Delorean, and comes to the conclusion that this set is a good value. The only thing to be mindful is that it could have been better, and that some liberties with the design were taken. Mainly that the roof and hood of this DeLorean have looked better in other MOC builds, and have even looked better in the CUUSOO proposal. But, one thing is for certain. The Lego Back to the Future DeLorean will become a collectible (due to its exclusive license, minifigures, and printed bricks.)

Lego CUUSOO: Lego Back to the Future DeLorean Reviewd by TheBrothersBrick 03

The neat thing with this Lego DeLorean is that it can be transformed into the iconic time machine from all three movies. The perfect bound instruction manual offers full instructions on how to put them together. The Lego Back to the Future 2 (BTFF2) DeLorean adds a Mr. Fusion, new 2015 license plates, and floating tires. While Lego The Back to the Future 3 (BTFF3) DeLorean adds new red tires, and a new engine. The controversial decision to have a tile based hood was made so that the BTFF3 DeLorean could have this interchangeable engine. The good news is that this hood design doesn’t look as terrible as it does on the box art.

The two included minifigures are Marty McFly and Doctor Emmet Brown. Getting these exclusive minifigs is a huge bonus. The torso prints are well done. Lego could have included multiple minifigure bodies to represent each figure in all three time periods, but they didn’t.  Combining these figures with the recent The Lone Ranger theme, you could probably come close to some BTFF3 minifigures. No such luck with BTTF2. But, maybe some day in the future we can get a Doc Brown minifigure with an awesome yellow coat!

The Hobbit: Azog Minifigure!

SDCC Exclusive Azog Minifigure from FBTB

San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) attendies have another exclusive Lego minifigure to hunt down, named Azog. This exclusive minifig is based on a villain from The Hobbit film. The only way to get this Azog minifigure is to receive it randomly. They are not for sale at the Lego booth. Making this one of the hardest and rarest minifigures to find.

While first mentioned in the Hobbit novel, Azog was a very minor character. The film version of The Hobbit is where Azog, as a character, was greatly expanded. A giant pale Orc with a vendetta.

The Lego Movie: Movie-Inspired Building Sets

No release date announced, but these new sets can be expected to hit stores sometime around the films release date of February 2014. Lego will be going all out with this upcoming theme. Lego Macross VF-1 Valkyrie + Fast Pack + Armored by maxvf1

maxvf1's Lego Cuusoo: Lego Macross VF-1 Valkyrie + Fast Pack + Armored

Macross (also know as Robotech) is one of the most famous anime series from Japan (Gundam being the other). First appearing on television in 1982, Macross has been steadily available across a variety of formats. The most recent incarnation is the movie Macross FB 7: Ore no Uta o Kike! (Macross Dynamite 7: 15th Anniversary) and the Macross 30: The Voice that Connects the Galaxy video game. This science fiction series is centered around gigantic mecha robots known as variable fighters (veritech fighters in the Robotech variation). These variable/veritech fighters, commonly referred to as Valkyries were essential during the first Human-Alien war.

The VF-1 Valkyrie looks like a modern fighter aircraft, but it has the ability to transform into different modes/configurations. The standard space/jet fighter mode, the GERWALK (guardian) mode, and the Battroid (Battloid) mode. The GERWALK resembles a “chicken walker” style mecha and has VTOL capabilities. While Battroid mode is a full humanoid mecha. The pilot of the Valkyrie is Hikaru Ichijyo.

maxvf1's Lego Cuusoo: Lego Macross VF-1 Valkyrie

The Lego Macross VF-1 Valkyrie + Fast Pack + Armored is the creation of maxvf1, and has a fully detailed Lego CUUSOO proposal. The proposal is for a single VF-1 Valkyrie that can transform between all three modes (Fighter, GERWALK, Battroid) while retaining the detailing and design from the Macross series. The designer, maxvf1 has even included many variations that could be produced. Including the VF-1S and VF-1J. Although the focus is on the VF-1 Valkyrie. Even a hanger dock and Armored variations have been proposed.

maxvf1's Lego Cuusoo: Lego Macross VF-S Valkyrie

These Macross Valkyries are extremely well made. Featuring fully posable articulation, and transformations (check out the YouTube video below). These are exceptionally accurate models. If for whatever reason this project never makes it out of the CUUSOO process it would be great if instructions could be provided. Mecha MOCs are always in demand.

The designer of these VF-1 Valkyrie mechas, maxvf1, has kept up a great and detailed Lego CUUSOO page here: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/638

Lego Mike & Sully, Monsters Inc.

MacLane's CubeDude Mike & Sully, Monsters Inc

Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan are an unstoppable pair of monsters. Both of them successfully managed to save Monstropolis and usher in a new era full of laughter. Monsters, Inc is one of Pixar’s best films, and its prequel (Monsters University) has recently hit theaters. What kind of adventures did these two monsters get into during college? Maybe it’s time to go watch the film. A tiny Lego Boo would turn this duo into a frighteningly awesome trio.

Angus MacLane has made a whole mess of CubeDudes (A squarish Lego figure), including this Monsters Inc set. So, go check them out on his Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27826007@N05/4690965383/

Lego Indiana Jones / The Office of Professor Jones at Barnett College

PuCCi0's Lego Indiana Jones, Professor Jones' Office at Barnett College

Indiana Jones is a professor at the fictional Barnett College, located in Fairfield, New York. It is here that he is a professor of archaeology. Professor Jones is known to be very popular with his female students. Almost too popular. The creator of this great MOC is known on Flickr as PuCCi0. Here, PuCCio, has imagined and built Indiana Jones’ private artifact collection. There are a lot of tiny details, such as a snake, skull and crossbones, Thor’s hammer, and even a Stormtrooper helmet. A whole lot of these details have been hidden in the office clutter. It is hard to imagine if Indy can finish any work during office hours. This is probably why he is often out on location (Temple of Doom!).

Lego Back To The Future: DeLorean Time Machine — Minifigure Details!

Just a few days ago the Lego Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine release date and early images were released. At the time the question was whether or not minifigs would be included. Now, BrickNews has verified that minifigs will come with the set when it is released on July 18th. A little Marty McFly and Emmett Brown (Doc) minifig will be piloting the DeLorean. The inclusion of these two minifigs has resparked interest in this new set, which will certainly be popular.

Not only that, but the DeLorean Time Machine will include instructions with alternate builds for the DeLorean. Featuring 3 different versions that will cover the whole trilogy. It also looks like instruction manual will include information and details from the Back to the Future trilogy will be included. Awesome!
