The Aquilax Fleet – A Lego Micro Space Project

Tim Goddard's Lego Space Aquilax Fleet

Purple is an extremely unfamiliar color for most Lego builders. In the past Lego has associated purple with Lego Friends or other girl-targeted themes. But, purple is on the rise.  A lot of the Super Heroes sets feature a good amount of purple, and the color is popping up in small amounts everywhere. The popularity of Lego Friends also means that it easy to acquire a lot of purple bricks quickly. Tim Goddard decided to create a whole Lego Space fleet in micro scale using purple. This collection of spaceships is known as the Aquilax Fleet.  Featuring a Destroyer, Frigate, Flagship and a few smaller starfighters. The gold accents and white base color contrast with the purple perfectly. Creating very clean, but almost alien looking starships. By restricting the part selection, and focusing on a micro-build, the designer has forced themselves to get creating with the Lego pieces.

Tim Goddard has also put out a call for other Lego builders to contribute to a Micro-/Nano-Space Fly-In. Where you can “contribute to the rag-tag fleet of space-based Refugees, Imperiums, Federations, Independents, Raiders, Pirates, Aliens, Ancients & More.” Check out http://www.mocslug.com/fly-in2014/ for more details. Contributors will be able to display their collection at the AFOLCON/BRICK 2014.

A Lego Playstation 2 Microbuild

kelseybuildslego's Lego Playstation 2 Microbuild

The original Playstation 2 was a monster of a game system. It managed to be heavy, somewhat fragile, expensive accessories, and difficult to find (at least at launch). The good news is that now you can recreate this legendary system with only 6 Lego bricks, at a cost of around (60¢). Sure it cannot play Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2, or Grand Theft Auto but it also doesn’t cost $299. Kelseybuildslego created this Lego Playstation 2 Microbuild with an almost perfect eye for minimalism. The double clip Lego piece will now forever be a PS2 controller in my mind. The single detail that makes this whole thing work is the two blue Lego wedges representing the vertical stand. Well done.

First Image of the New Lego Minecraft Micro World: The End (21107)

Lego Minecraft Micro World The End 21107

The first photo of the new Lego Minecraft Micro World: The End (21107) has been revealed. The new set will be available sometime this summer (2014). The set designer, Steen, is showing off the new set. Which will feature the Endermen and an Ender Dragon. This is the forth set in the line, and if Lego were to discontinue the theme this would be the perfect release. Or, maybe there are still other Minecraft Micro Worlds in the works…

I wonder how this set will fit in with the other Minecraft Micro Worlds.

A Gleaming LOTR Lego Minas Tirith in Micro Scale

lisqr's Lego Minas Tirith Micro Scale

If there is one The Lord of the Rings set that everyone is waiting for an official release it is Minas Tirith. The problem is that almost any set that Lego designs will disappoint LOTR fans in some way. It will be either, too small and toy like, or small and expensive. A minifigure scale version of Minas Tirith is just not feasible. With this in mind, Flickr user, lisqr proposes a Lego Minas Tirith in micro scale. Even in the tiny scale this is a huge MOC at 65 studs across and 35 bricks tall. The gleaming white walls look ready to withstand any invasion. All the major details of Minas Tirith are here, the 7 ringed levels, the Citadel, the Tower of Ecthelion, and the White Tree.

A Lego CUUSOO page has been created for this project. As lisqr says: “Minas Tirith, the greatest fortress in Middle Earth, deserves to be immortalized in Lego bricks. The Lord of the Rings theme feels incomplete without it.” Check it out here: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/58380

Brickville is a Beautiful Lego SimCity

Brickville Lego City Overhead SimCity

Brickville is the closest thing to a Lego SimCity. Imagine if EA Games made a Lego themed version of SimCity. It would look like this. This micro scale city in completely modular. Usually these type of projects can look too artificial, sometimes being too constrained to a set of rules. Brickville seems to have found a way past this problem. This little city is currently 67 or so baseplates in size and is expanding.  Not only is Brickville extremely photogenic from overhead, but its profile looks almost real. The variety of the high-rises and skyscrapers help lend the project a sense of realism.

Brickville recently made an appearance at a KLUG show. Where it was photographed by Luap31 and Jameson42. You can find more details over on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brickville/10946567563/

The Adventure Time Project, A Lego land of Ooo at Lego CUUSOO

jazlecraz's Lego Cuusoo, The Adventure Time Project

Lego and Adventure Time are an almost perfect match. Fans of both have been hoping for Lego to pick up an official license. Jazlecraz has created an incredibly detailed Lego CUUSOO project based on Adventure Time. This is the best way to get Lego to notice the demand for Adventure Time. There are currently over 9,000 supporters for this project, and when it hits 10,000 Lego has to officially review the proposal and make a decision. Lego has officially commented on the Adventure Time Project, and noted that no new molds would be created for a CUUSOO project. Meaning that the minifigures have been set aside in favor for a micro scale theme. Everybody would still love to see Finn, Jake, BMO, Marceline, Princess Bubblegum, Ice King, and Lemongrab get their own microfigures.

jazlecraz's Lego Cuusoo, The Adventure Time Project Treehouse

The Adventure Time Project is focused on created one amazing micro scale Tree Fort. Consisting of about 400 Lego pieces in its current incarnation. This means that it would fit in with the current $34.99 price point that Lego has favored for their CUUSOO theme. There are also six micro scale Lego sets that have been added as a bonus. Showing what could be done if this becomes a full theme. One thing is certain, if these were real there would be a whole lot of Finn and Jake figures.

Han Solo’s Blaster – A Lego Star Wars Mini MOC

Obedient Machine's Han Solo's Blaster, A Lego Star Wars Mini MOC

Being an infamous scoundrel means that Han Solo has be able to fight (or talk) his way out of any situation. That’s why it is an absolute must to carry a DL-44 heavy blaster pistol. Easy to hide, but still deadly in a firefight. This version of Han Solo’s Blaster is a great mini build. The whole gun is built using just 15, or so, Lego pieces. Including a brown carrot, which might just be the most ingenious use for it yet.

128k. A Mini Lego Apple Macintosh.

customBRICKS's 128k Lego Apple Macintosh

customBRICKS has created this minifigure scale Lego Apple Macintosh. This micro 128k computer is perfectly simple. Every piece has its place, and no Lego piece is superfluous. This little guy is actually a micro version of Chris McVeighs larger Lego Mac “hello.” which can be seen here. I don’t believe the 128k can get any cuter.

Lego Minecraft: The Village & Lego Minecraft: The Nether Available Now

Lego Minecraft is one of those perfect themes. The two come together to create some of the best Lego sets of all time. The Lego Minecraft Micro World set is easily one of the best selling Lego sets of last year. Often selling out of stock once the set had been replenished. Lego has noticed, and has been continually “reprinting” the original Minecraft set. Now Lego has officially released two new sets in the Minecraft theme. Making this the first CUUSOO project to graduate into a full theme. The new Lego Minecraft: The Village and Lego Minecraft: The Nether are now available through Lego and Amazon.

The early reviews are starting to show up, and are generally forming the opinion that these new sets are great. Perfect for anyone who enjoyed the original. Check out the details at Amazon:

Two New Lego Minecraft Sets: The Village (21105) & The Nether (21106)

Lego Minecraft The Village 21105

Lego has officially announced two new Lego Minecraft sets. The Village (21105) and the Nether (21106) which will be released in September 2013. These new sets have been mysterious rumors up until today. Lego made this announcement from Comic-Con San Diego. If you are attending the Con, make sure to check out these new sets in the Lego booth (#2829).

Lego Minecraft: The Village (21105) is built in the same scale as the original Lego Minecraft set. Featuring four modular pieces that can be rearranged into many different combinations. This new set features a tiny Minecraft village and a place to grow crops. But, underneath this unsuspecting village is a system of underground mines where your villagers can adventure.  This new set comes with three tiny Micromobs, a pig, villager, and zombie. The Minecraft pig is pretty darn cute.

The other new set is the Lego Minecraft: The Nether (21106). It is also built in the same scale as the other Minecraft sets. Meaning that if you have all three of them, you can combine them into a giant playset. The Nether can be accessed through an Obsidian Portal, where your poor adventurer can explore this new biome. The set features, Netherrack, gravel, lava, and bedrock. All essential ingredients for your Minecraft creations. Here you get three Micromob figures, a Zombie Pigman and two Ghasts.

Lego Minecraft The Nether 21106

The original Lego Minecraft (21102) set has been a runnaway success for both Lego and Mojang. Originally offered through the Lego CUUSOO program, the set proved so popular that it has been developed into a full theme. Featuring a modular, and micro scale building style these sets have really expanded upon what most people have expected from Lego.

“LEGO Minecraft is a perfect example of how people’s passions can be amplified when digital and physical interests are combined, and there couldn’t be more synergy between the engine that drives the Minecraft gaming experience and the creative fuel of a LEGO building experience,” said Michelle Wilson, senior brand manager for LEGO Systems, Inc. “We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with Mojang to create new Minecraft characters and environments in LEGO form so that fans can get as creative as they’d like in their physical world as in their digital one.”

“There’s no doubt about the connection between LEGO building and Minecraft — not only the design similarities, but the immense creativity that our fan bases share,” said Lydia Winters, Mojang’s director of fun. “Given how well received the first model was last year, we can’t wait to see what fans think of these new designs.” — Lego

Now is a great time to pick up the original Lego Minecraft (21102), available at Amazon. These sets are extremely popular and if they happen to be sold out, check back at a later date. Lego is constantly releasing more. Each time a new shipment is available, the price is set for the MSRP of $34.99.

Update: Available Now!

These two new Minecraft Lego sets are available now. Check out Amazon.com for the details: Lego Minecraft: Micro World, The Village and Lego Minecraft: Micro World: The Nether.
