Lego Minifigures Series 11 Reviewed by WhiteFang @ Eurobricks

WhiteFang's Lego Minifigures Series 11 Review Box

The new Lego Minifigures Series 11 is just starting to show up in stores. The packaging color will be a deep green, which matches the “holiday” theming of this series. At least three of the minifigs have a winter theme, including the Gingerbread Man, Yeti, and Holiday Elf. It looks like Series 11 is another great release. Although the distribution may cause the more desired minifigures in this set to be rare or uncommon.

WhiteFang's Lego Minifigures Series 11 Review

WhiteFang, over on Eurobricks, has written up the definitive review. Every few months another Minifig Series is released and WhiteFang is there with an extremely detailed writeup. These figures have proven to be some of the most interesting that Lego produces. The sheer amount of new parts and detailed printing separates these from the normal minifigures from the other Lego sets.

“To me, this series remain a huge importance in the LEGO history and affirming my belief that all of these minifigures in the past, present and future series will continue to be regarded as part of the ‘Golden Age’ for the LEGO CMFs theme.”

The bad news for Series 11 is that the distribution is not at all friendly for the collector. The rarest figures are the most desired, Scarecrow, Tiki Warrior, Grandma, Jazz Musician, Bavarian Lady, and Dinner Waitress. This means that if picking out these figures from an opened box, the chances of finding these are extremely low. There are only two complete sets per box. Lets hope you like the Rock Climber, Welder, Constable, or Yeti as these are probably the minifigures you will find.

Lego Cuusoo: The Lego Back to the Future DeLorean Reviewed @ The Brothers Brick

Lego CUUSOO: Lego Back to the Future DeLorean Reviewd by TheBrothersBrick

The Lego Back to the Future DeLorean (21103) set is here. The official release date has been set for August 1st, but if you happen to be at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) you can purchase it early at the Lego booth. (UPDATE: it is now available on Amazon). Amazingly with a 401 piece count the $34.99 price tag is actually reasonable (the old 10¢ a piece ratio). Being part of the Lego CUUSOO project, this DeLorean features some advanced building techniques and lots of SNOT. Sharing more in common with a MOC then an official Lego set.

Lego CUUSOO: Lego Back to the Future DeLorean Reviewd by TheBrothersBrick 02

Andrew from The Brothers Brick has written up a full review of the Delorean, and comes to the conclusion that this set is a good value. The only thing to be mindful is that it could have been better, and that some liberties with the design were taken. Mainly that the roof and hood of this DeLorean have looked better in other MOC builds, and have even looked better in the CUUSOO proposal. But, one thing is for certain. The Lego Back to the Future DeLorean will become a collectible (due to its exclusive license, minifigures, and printed bricks.)

Lego CUUSOO: Lego Back to the Future DeLorean Reviewd by TheBrothersBrick 03

The neat thing with this Lego DeLorean is that it can be transformed into the iconic time machine from all three movies. The perfect bound instruction manual offers full instructions on how to put them together. The Lego Back to the Future 2 (BTFF2) DeLorean adds a Mr. Fusion, new 2015 license plates, and floating tires. While Lego The Back to the Future 3 (BTFF3) DeLorean adds new red tires, and a new engine. The controversial decision to have a tile based hood was made so that the BTFF3 DeLorean could have this interchangeable engine. The good news is that this hood design doesn’t look as terrible as it does on the box art.

The two included minifigures are Marty McFly and Doctor Emmet Brown. Getting these exclusive minifigs is a huge bonus. The torso prints are well done. Lego could have included multiple minifigure bodies to represent each figure in all three time periods, but they didn’t.  Combining these figures with the recent The Lone Ranger theme, you could probably come close to some BTFF3 minifigures. No such luck with BTTF2. But, maybe some day in the future we can get a Doc Brown minifigure with an awesome yellow coat!

Lego Star Wars: Ewok Village (10236) Reviewed by Jared Chan

The recently announced Lego Star Wars: Ewok Village (10236) has been reviewed early. This massive new Lego set has an announced release date of September 2013. With 1,990 pieces and a price tag of $249.99 this is a massive Lego Ewok Village. The whole set comes with a total of 16 minifigures. Four complete brick built trees with a canopy village, make this one of the largest Lego sets out there. The Star Wars: Ewok Village is bound to become a legend.

Jared Chan's Lego Ewok Village 10236 Review

The new Lego Ewok Village offers a lot of earth tone bricks. Including reddish brown, dark brown, tan, dark tan, dark orange, medium dark flesh, dark green, sand green, green, etc. Based on this selection this set may become the best place to source pieces for landscape / castle / and forest MOCs. All of these bricks come together for an extremely sturdy playset, with many hidden features. Also note, that this set includes the new 3×3 plate that has long been requested for release.

Jared Chan's Lego Star Wars: Ewok Village 10236 Detail Review

Jared Chan, from Legend Bricks, received an early Ewok Village from the Lego Group. He then promptly reviewed it in extreme detail. Jared concludes that the set is highly detailed, and offers a whole lot of fun. And, although it is not the most advanced build, it does not disappoint.

Lego Castle: King’s Castle (70404) Reviewed @ Eurobricks!

oo7's Lego Castle, Kings Castle 70404 Review

Lego has recently restarted its Castle theme. This may be the first time that two fantasy based Lego themes have overlapped. Lego Castle and Lego the Lord of the Rings / the Hobbit are both themes that share common designs. It has never been a better time for fantasy Lego fans. The new Lego Castle theme is actually very similar to the previous Kingdoms theme. Almost matching up set for set, with very few new ideas. For collectors of Lego Castle the minifigures are going to be the main draw here.

oo7 has recently posted up a full pictorial review over at Eurobricks of the new Lego Castle: King’s Castle (70404). This is the big flagship set for the theme and seems to have hit all the checkboxes for a Lego Castle. The standard Gatehouse, Kings keep, curtain wall, and two towers all combine to create a great modular castle. Perfect as the Crownies seem to be defending against the included siege engine and Red Dragon minifigs.

This castle comes with the Lego King, Knight, and two Archers. While on the “bad guy” side you will get a Red Dragon Knight and two Raiders. The Lego King usually comes with a chromed sword, but here comes with a pearlized sword. It comes off looking not as regal, but is also not that much of a loss. The best minifigs here are the Crown Knight, and Red Dragon Knight.

007's Lego Kings Castle (70404) Review Minifigs

As usual the Castle set is modular and can integrate with other Lego Castle sets. For instance adding the Lego Castle: the Gatehouse Raid (70402) to the castle will match the design and scale perfectly. There are a lot of different options that you can choose for the castle layout.

The Lord of the Rings, the Tower of Orthanc (10237) Reviewed @ Eurobricks

Rufus's The Tower Of Orthanc Review 1

The first full review for the new Lego, the Lord of the Rings, the Tower of Orthanc (10237) has been released, and it is over at Eurobricks. Rufus has written up a super cool review, showcasing every tiny detail of this towering tower. Oddly enough Lego has made two conflicting sets in the same release. To put it bluntly the Wizard Battle (79005) is a mini version of the Tower of Orthanc. So, if you cannot afford the full price, the smaller mini set is a good alternative. As Rufus points out in his review, the white wizard Saruman is actually different in both sets, meaning that if you are a completist then you will need both.

Rufus's The Tower Of Orthanc Review 2

Rufus's The Tower Of Orthanc Review 3

The Tower of Orthanc is a full six floors, with 2,359 pieces, and really is one of the tallest Lego models to date. It measures 28″ tall (71cm), which is over 2 feet! The inclusion a fully posable and working brick built Ent is wonderful. And although, the inclusion of an Eagle is also great, it is a shame that it is a molded figure. At least it can be replaced with the Lego Creator Fierce Flyer (31004) which makes a great brick built eagle.

The overall opinion is that this is a great set from Lego, which features an unbelievable amount of black bricks. The price to brick ratio (8.5¢) is also reasonable, which is rare for a licensed set.

Lego the Lord of the Rings: Pirate Ship Ambush (79008) Reviewed

LegoFreaks's Lego Lord of the Rings: Pirate Ship Ambush 79008 Review

The new Lego Lord of the Rings sets are now available, and the reviews are starting to come in. The big set of this wave is the Pirate Ship Ambush (79008) and comes with 756 pieces, 9 minifigures, and a whole lot of printed shields. Although a tad on the expensive side, the set does include a giant boat, and when compared to other boat sets, the price is just about right ($99 US). Oddly enough a tiny catapult is included with the set; perfect for your Army of the Dead to attack. The boat/corsair comes with some strange pieces, such as 24 shields (printed and unprinted), dragon wings, and a loaf of bread. Just in case Gimli gets hungry.

LegoFreak's Lego Lord of the Rings: Pirate Ship Ambush 79008 Review Detail

Speaking of Gimli, he just happens to be included with this set. As is Aragorn and Legolas, just in case you missed them in the first wave of the Lord of the Rings releases. The new minifigs are surprisingly great, and are almost worth the price of the set. The King of the Dead, and two Soldiers of the Dead are the center attraction here. They feature a pasty green color scheme, and even glow in the dark (just like in the film!). There is also two Orcs and a corsair of Umbar included. I would have liked to have seen more pirates, but I guess Orcs are good too. The one corsair of Umbar included is based off of the cameo that Peter Jackson made as a Castamir of Umbar in the extended edition of the Lord of the Rings: Return of the Ring.

Lego City: Undercover

If you happen to be one of the lucky few people out there to own a WiiU, Lego City: Undercover is considered one of the best games available. It has been 8 years since TT Games first released Lego Star Wars and many people think that the formula is wearing thin. The co-op action-adventure game does many things right, but the same complaints (wonky camera, bad AI, etc.) have haunted the series for years. And, although these complaints are valid, overall the Lego series of video games are some of the most charming available.

TT Games and TT Fusion surprised many people by creating an open world action-adventure game. Lego City: Undercover is a breath of fresh air. It has successfully merged the gameplay of more adult titles such as Grand Theft Auto into a more friendly package.  It is also rare to see a Lego game not based on a licensed property, and this may be the first video game to do one of the core Lego themes justice. Lego City has never been this interesting before.

The Lone Ranger: Cavalry Builder Set (79106) Reviewed

KielDaMan’s The Lone Ranger Cavalry Builder Set Review

The Lone Ranger theme sure does have a lot of interesting sets. The Cavalry Builder Set (79106) is one of those sets that everyone wishes Lego would create for every theme. Having a full Cavalry in a wild west theme is almost essential. Who else is your collection of surly bandits and outlaws going to harass? You get three Cavalry soldiers, a cannon, a horse and the Lone Ranger. The only downside to this set is that the Lone Ranger won’t be alone for long if you buy more then one set in this theme. As an added bonus, most of these pieces (except the minifigs) can fit right in with a Pirate theme.

The Lego Lone Ranger: Silver Mine Shootout Reviewed

The Brothers Brick: Lego Lone Ranger Silver Mine Shootout Review

The Lone Ranger sets keep coming, and this time the Brothers Brick has a great review of The Lone Ranger: Silver Mine Shootout (79110) set. At first glance this set doesn’t seem all that impressive. Although, this set features an extremely large amount of play features, and sloped bricks. Most of what it offers is very hard to photograph. The five minifigs included here are the Lone Ranger, Tonto, Chief Big Bear, Butch Cavendish, and Skinny Kyle. This set goes together well with the Stagecoach Escape. This Lego Lone Ranger theme is actually a pleasant surprise. Not one set seems to be filler. Make sure to check out the video review!
