The Blue Lion Castle – An Epic Lego MOC

If the Lego King’s Castle (70404) is just not big or detailed enough then this Blue Lion Castle might be what you are looking for. This classic looking castle is made up of tens of thousands of Lego pieces. The whole things sticks to a gray and blue color scheme that works extremely well. These Lion Knights and Soldiers are protecting one of the most epic Lego castles ever built. The detailing in the walls, the stained glass, the grand entrance, and the huge tower make this thing a work of art.

The Lego Blue Lion Castle was inspired by the famous Hohenzollern Castle. Which is located on the top of Berg (Mount) Hohenzollern in Germany. The iconic Hohenzollern Castle shares the blue and gray design, and overall floor plan with the Blue Lion Castle. The Lego version though seems to be much more ornate then the real life inspiration.

Mount Doom (79022), The Lord Of The Rings Lego

It feels like Lego should still have a Return of the King wave in their The Lord of the Rings theme. People all over the internet would like to have an official Minis Tirith, Barad-dûr, Witch-king of Angmar, or a Mount Doom set. Graham Gidman has proposed what the missing Mount Doom set would look like. His Mount Doom (79022) would be priced at $24.99 and come in at 201 pieces. Everything about this MOC looks like it could be an official Lego set. It even features the stupid little catapult that most fantasy set have. Poor little Lego Frodo, he doesn’t know that Gollum is going to bite his finger off. And, poor little Gollum, he is about to fall to his doom.

A Song of Ice and Fire: A Fire Breathing Lego Dragon

The Lego dragon is one deadly category of MOC builds. There is a lot of great competition. Even Lego has made some pretty good brick built dragons in their Ninjago theme. Although Lego also seems to favor a custom big figure for these. A lot of people were let down that the Hobbit theme didn’t include a giant brick built dragon (Smaug deserves better).

Sean and Steph Mayo have recently participated in an Iron Builder competition, and this “A Song of Ice and Fire” is their entry. They went all out and created a crowd pleaser. This Lego dragon actually breathes fire. Making this the most deadly Lego dragon ever created. Most people think about putting and LED or two into their work, imaging working with propane. The Iron Builder challenge here was to incorporate the silver tubing into a build. They describe it better below:

“The seed part is used as wing veins, stomach scales, horns, spines, and most importantly his throat. The tubing runs all the way through his neck, body, and tail. At the end, it is attached to a small portable propane tank.”

The Lich King Raised a Lego Sindragosa (World of Warcraft)

Sindragosa is an undead dragon raised by the Lich King from an icy grave in Icecrown. Instantly creating one of the most iconic dragons in the video game World of Warcraft. This Lego Sindragosa is the creation of Bangoo H. Will the Queen of the Frostbrood achieve revenge? Will Lego Adventurers, Tirion Fording and Darion Mograine be able to stop her in time?

Sindragosa is an impressive Lego model. Built almost to the Minifigure scale, this dragon is ready to destroy any challengers. A Lego dragon is a difficult creature to build, but an undead dragon is near impossible. The impression of a skeleton is achieved with a careful selection of grey Lego pieces and various hinges. The internal skeleton relies on Technic pieces for strength without adding too much bulk. The whole thing is finished with a massive wingspan.

Behind the Scenes; Building Lego for Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Brooklyn Nine-Nine recently featured Lego in a scene with Detective Sergeant Terence “Terry” Jeffords (played by Terry Crews). Afterwards something awesome happened. Reddit user austoncall posted a whole bunch of behind the scenes photographs showing what went into creating the Lego tower. Although it took a whole lot more work then someone would expect, the Lego tower looked great as it was being destroyed on set.

The whole project started out as about $300 worth of brand new Lego. Everything was built with 2 complete sets of the Lego King’s Castle (70404), 2 Builders of Tomorrow (6177) sets, 2 Lego Creative Buckets (10662), 1 Lego Creative Building Kit (5749), 1 Lego Education Doors, Windows, & Roof Tiles set (9386), plus a few baseplates and other miscellaneous parts.

The greatest challenge to creating these props, was figuring out what kind of style to build the tower. A sleek modern tower that the best AFOL would create, or a tower created out of a hodgepodge of bricks (like a child would build). After a few attempts, the show decided on something in between. A good decision, as it is instantly recognizable as Lego. In the end three towers were needed, so that the crew could film multiple takes and angles. If you look closely the three towers look similar, but are actually slightly different.

The Hobbit Shortened to 72 Seconds, and in Lego

Some people out there think that 3 films is 2 films too many for the Hobbit. Well this video is for them. The Hobbit in 72 Seconds is the creation of the Brotherhood Workshop. As they helpfully point out, this is only 33,000ish seconds shorter than Peter Jackson’s version. They manage to fit in all of the major scenes, from the Unexpected Gathering to the Battle of Five Armies. It should be pointed out that there are massive spoilers here. This extremely well made video features special effect, brick built scenes, and full voice overs. Not only that but they managed to throw in a little something special at the end. Check it out!

Grogmar Trollmaster – A Fearsome Lego Troll and Orc Duo

Grogmar Trollmaster: The Basher of Skulls is one fearsome looking Orc. Created by Slamaskin, using pieces from the recent Fantasy Era Castle theme. Who knew that the relatively plain looking Lego Troll could look so good with some slight modifications. Now sporting a sort of battle backpack with chains and bone decorations. The end result is great, and helps to increase the Trolls usability. Adding this sort of detailing is a good way to get these things to show up in the more detailed Hobbit or Lord of the Rings builds.

The Lands of Classic Castle: Uncovered

Lego has inspired many great MOCs. There are a few themes (Classic Space, Classic Castle, Star Wars, Middle Earth, Harry Potter, City) that have communities devoted to them. One of the most active communities is for the Classic Castle theme. Many Lego creations are created for this theme every day. One such place fans gather is at Classic-Castle. Over there is a unique fantasy world under development called the Lands of Classic Castle. An extremely detailed story and setting are being created piece by piece. The newest entry into the series is title “Uncovered” and is the creation of Disco86. Documenting an intense sea battle with Paul von Brickenstein.

These castle theme Lego MOCs are usually extremely well done. Uncovered is no exception. With a relatively focused scene, every brick lends itself to the action. Some great Minifigures and photography are on display. The man overboard and the jumping attack are two great details. Also on display is the increasing trend of building amazing display frames.
