Lego Friends: You’re invited to a Pool Party!

eilonwy77's Lego Friends Pool Party 01

It looks like the Lego Friends are having a Pool Party, and you’re invited. The patterns and colors of this MOC are crazy insane. Every single piece has been carefully placed. The pool pavement, the tiled BBQ area, the beautiful trees and greenery, and the curved wall, everything is made out of Lego pieces. Some of the details can almost get lost in the scene. There are a couple of butterflies enjoying their afternoon. A lazy bird perched on the wall. And, a Lego boom box!

Pool Party is the creation of Flickr user eilonwy77. Some of the details have proven so popular that eilonwy77 has posted some quick guides showing how they are created. Specifically, the trees, the curved wall, and the pool deck. Check out the details here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/eilonwy77/7200730436/

Lego Friends: Emma’s Place, A Lovely Modular Building MOC

Kristel’s Lego Friends Emma’s Place 01

It turns out that Lego Friends fits into the Lego System very well. It’s success means that this theme will probably be staying around for years. So far, the Friends theme has been offering many unique Lego pieces and exclusive colors. Focusing on pink, purple, blue, and green has made these sets instantly recognizable (for good or bad). There have been a few amazing MOCs (My Own Creation) combining the Friends theme with other Lego themes. Some of the best creations are those involving the Modular Buildings. These super detailed buildings can be described as a sort of “doll house” for the Lego fan.

This Lego Friends themed modular building is called Emma’s Place. This design would fit into the modular buildings very well. Especially the Lego Pet Shop (10218) and the Lego Cafe Corner (10182). Emma’s Place is a single building that combines the the Beauty Parlour, Fashion Design Studio and Karate Class together. The all glass (plastic!) entrance into Emma’s Place is a great design; opening up into a full Beauty Salon.

Hail Mary! – A Lego Friends MOC Starship

The Architect's Lego Freinds MOC: Hail Mary

Hail Mary! is another great entry in the Lego Friends MOC flight genre. There is Mia’s Beauty and Olivia’s Flash, both extremely well made MOCs. Hail Mary is a starship with an experimental design. Having an almost “U” shape, this ship looks like it could be out of Star Wars. The use of the green donut pieces works very well here. The green color gives the impression that Mary is some sort of rogue or bounty hunter. Having two cockpits means that Mary will never have to go alone on a mission. The whole starship looks very impressive.

Lego Friends seems to have found a great place with the rest of the Lego Themes. Showing up in many MOCs and blending in very well. It will be very interesting to see if Lego Friends is here for the long run, so far, it is off to a great start!

Olivia’s “Flash” – A Lego Friends MOC

Shuppiluliumas's Lego Friends MOC: Olivia's Flash

“I spend hours inventing things. I can reuse and recycle almost anything.” — Olivia (Lego.com)

According to the Lego Friends website, Olivia would like to be a scientist or engineer. Fast forward to the semi-distant future and it looks like Olivia has accomplished her goal. Having just completed building her new spaceship, nicknamed “Flash,” Olivia is ready to see the universe. Knowing that it would be a lonely adventure, Olivia also invented and built a robot copilot named SNAFU (Stellar Navigation Artificial Friend Unit).

This is a super retro Lego rocket ship designed by Shuppiluliumas. This Lego Friends MOC is featuring a very sleek design, dinner plates for engine details, and even an umbrella for the rocket. Accompanying Olivia is a fun little robot, made out of a bunch of tiny parts. This is one elegant starship.

Lego Friends MOC: Mia’s “Beauty”

Shuppiluliumas's Lego Friends MOC: Mia's Beauty

“Taking her concerns for animal health and welfare to the skies, Mia teams up with veteran gunner Oscar and takes to the skies in ‘Beauty’ a retro-inspired, environmentally conscious low-emission long range scout.”

A Lego Friends MOC with humor and great design is Mia’s “Beauty.” This is a great 1930’s style airplane. With a very fun use of a Lego Friends sticker to create the pin-up girl art, that was so common during this era. “Beauty” is outfitted with a twin propeller (twin-prop) engine and a really cool glass canopy. Mia is ready to fly the skies in her lime green long range scout. Mia’s copilot is her hedgehog “Oscar.” A dangerously cute gunner.

Mia’s “Beauty” is a great example of combining the Lego Friends theme with the other Lego themes. This, along with the Lovely Hotel is one of the most memorable Lego MOCs in the recent years.

Lego Friends: Lovely Hotel, A Wonderful Cafe Corner (10182) Mod

Lego Friends: Lovely Hotel Package

The Lego Friends theme has been a wild success for Lego. The first truly successful “girls” line of Lego. There have been many other attempts by Lego to break into the “pink“ isle at the local toy store. But this has lead to a lot of criticism about the separation based on gender of Lego themes. And this segregation away from the other Lego sets certainly doesn’t help Lego keep a gender neutral position. There sure is a lot of pink, purple and tan in the Lego Friends theme, but the building designs, techniques and imagination involved are the same that makes Lego so popular.

One of the most impressive Lego Friends MOCs is this Lovely Hotel. The actual design is almost an exact match to the famous Lego Cafe Corner (10182). The designer of this put a lot of work into modifying the Cafe Corner, and converting it to the Friends color scheme. With some really great ideas, such as using the hair decoration pieces for window dressing. Even the trademark entry sign has been recreated with flowers and ice cream (the original is made from ski’s and a coffee mug). It makes the ground level of the Lovely Hotel an Ice Cream parlor instead of a Cafe, which is a great fit with this theme. This whole build almost feels like it is made out of candy, and it could easily fit into a larger candyland theme.
