The Lego Wizard of Oz, Follow the Lego Brick Road

Siercon and Coral, Lego Wizard Of Oz, Follow the Lego Brick Road

Siercon and Coral have created a Wizard of Oz Lego scene titled: Follow the Lego Brick Road. The project is part of an Iron Builder competition with Legohaulic (Tyler) where the yellow rounded 1×2 slope must be creatively used. You can spot them in the Yellow Brick Road, the hot air balloon, and the sun. This is an interesting MOC, as it is using a mosaic background and forced perspective to create something similar to a painting. The end result is great. The Lego Wizard of Oz is quickly becoming a popular theme…

Follow the Yellow Slope Road, a Wizard of Oz Lego MOC by Legohaulic (Tyler)

Tyler's Wizard Of Oz Lego, Follow the Yellow Slope Road

Lego and the Wizard of Oz have seen some great builds before (especially the recent project by VirtuaLUG). The fantastic setting and great characters are a perfect fit for Lego. This vignette, created by Legohaulic (Tyler), is titled: Follow the Yellow Slope Road. The project is part of an Iron Builder challenge to incorporate the yellow 1×2 curved slope into a project. The results here are marvelous. The use of the curved Lego pieces in the background make for a great forced perspective, which gives the illusion that the build is larger then it really is. Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and Toto look great.

This Toto might be my favorite Lego dog ever built.

Finn’s Basement – The Lego Movie Set is at Legoland California

Finn's Basement, The Lego Movie Set

Legoland in Carlsbad, California has recently opened a new exhibit. Finn’s Basement, which is the actual set that was used in the filming of The Lego Movie. It is a massive set with almost every scene from The Lego Movie built in Lego. The whole set up is just like every kids (and adults) dream. A massive basement level Lego studio, with a whole collection of Lego spanning decades of collecting. Even though this is only a set, it is extremely awesome!

Finns Basement, The Lego Movie Set, City

It appears that these photos were taken before the final exhibit was finished. In newer photos there is a plexiglass wall surrounding each set, making sure that hands stay away from all the hard work on display. The amount of work that went into building this set is staggering. A few poor souls are probably still recovering from calloused hands. The detailing involved in this set is amazing. With hand drawn signs, warning labels and posters which all appeared in The Lego Movie.

Finn’s Basement is organized into different sections. Each one representing a theme from the film. Represented are City, Castle, Wild West, Pirates, Space, Cloud Cuckoo, etc.

Based on the Classic Space section it looks like Benny got his spaceship! Spaceship!

Lego Ghostbusters (21108) CUUSOO set officially revealed!

Lego Ghostbusters 21108 Minifigures

“I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us.” — Dr. Ray Stantz

It seems that the upcoming Lego Ghostbusters (21108) CUUSOO set will be upon us sooner then expected. At the recent Toy Fair (2014), Lego officially revealed details and photos for the new set. The Lego Ghostbusters (21108) will be available for purchase in June 2014 with a retail price of $49.99. The set will include a very slick looking Ecto-1, and the Ghostbusters themselves: Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz, Dr. Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore. The original design was done by Brent Waller, and most of his ideas have been persevered here (except for the Firehouse, which is understandably missing).

Lego Ghostbusters 21108 Set

Not only do the Minifigures have an uncanny resemblance to the Ghostbusters, but the Ecto-1 is almost perfect. It features some SNOT building techniques that really help to preserve the iconic look. A few noticable details are the beautiful Lego blue hoses, and the whip accessory in black.

Lego Ghostbusters 21108 Ecto-1

“This fun and iconic vehicle from the blockbusting ‘80s movie is fully loaded with all the paranormal detection equipment needed to track down those ghastly ghosts. It also features cool Ghostbusters logo decoration, removable roof, tracking computer and seats for 3 minifigures.”

The First Guardians of the Galaxy Lego Sets Revealed

Lego Guardians of the Galaxy, Milano Spaceship Rescue 76021

Did you see the new trailer for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy? If not, go check it out now. It was only a matter of time before Lego revealed new sets based on Guardians of the Galaxy. With the new movie coming out this summer these sets will be extremely popular. For some reason, images of the first 3 sets have been rare. Just a few days ago Marvel and Lego officially revealed the first image of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Milano Spaceship Rescue (76021, $74.99).

It also appears that these new Lego sets were on display at the recent Toy Fair 2014. In the background of a few of the other Lego Super Heroes photos the box for the Knowhere Escape Mission (76020, $39.99) can be seen. It looks like the whole cast will be represented in these sets, with Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket, Ronan, and Yondu in minifigure form. Interestingly, it looks like Groot will be brick built.

The third set (76019) in this series is still a mystery. But, it will be priced at $19.99 making it the entry point for this mini-theme.

Lego Guardians of the Galaxy, Knowhere Escape Mission 76020

“From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which first appeared in comic books in MARVEL SUPER-HEROES #18 (Jan. 1969), stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector.

James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” releases in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2014.

In addition to “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015.”

The Making of The Lego Movie; A Spoiler Free, Behind the Scenes Video

The Lego movie is awesome! And now you can see just how much work went into that awesome. This 7 minute behind the scenes look into the making of the Lego Movie is almost completely spoiler free. The animation studio, Animal Logic, put a whole lot of love into this project. Starting from Lego sets, they built and familiarized themselves with Lego. Then built concept models that were then digitized with what looks like the Lego Digital Designer (LDD).  They then animated these models in the software. All of this took years of work, which paid off!

It looks like the video below is actually a cut of version of an fxguide article. The embedded version below mostly removed the interview portions. If you want to see the full version you can read the article, Brick-by-brick: how Animal Logic crafted The LEGO Movie, here: http://www.fxguide.com/featured/brick-by-brick-how-animal-logic-crafted-the-lego-movie/ and download the full 30 minute video, fxguidetv #186: The LEGO Movie, here: http://www.fxguide.com/fxguidetv/fxguidetv-186-the-lego-movie/
