Level Up With Lego Super Mario Details And Video

Lego Super Mario Theme Details

Lego has revealed new details about their new theme based on Super Mario. Previously they showcased a short teaser video on MAR10 day, and now they are showing off a lot more of the theme. It is very clear in the provided details that this set is being produced for kids. The whole theme is a new direction for Lego, which they put best stating:

“Neither a video game nor a traditional LEGO brick-based set, LEGO® Super Mario™ is a new product line that features an interactive LEGO Mario figure who collects coins in real-life game levels created with LEGO bricks. The new line will let kids experience the playful world of Super Mario like never before. Super Mario will be brought to life in the physical LEGO world and new levels of challenge and styles of play will be part of the iconic LEGO experience enjoyed by generations.”

There is no release date or pricing details at this time. Lego did announce that more information is coming soon, with a planned release in the Summer of 2020.

Lego Goomba And Mario
Lego Super Mario Set

This new theme seems to fit in between Duplo and the Classic System sets. They share a lot in common with the recent Lego Junior sets. A lot of big pieces and simple building techniques.

The new sets features a bluetooth enabled Mario, with interactive screens and speakers. With these new electronic abilities Mario is able to interact with the Lego set by keeping scores, playing music, and setting a timer. He features realativly few brick customizing features. It looks like only the iconic Mario hat and a few 1×1 rounds are removable.

The new Lego Super Mario theme looks a whole lot like the Mario Party video games. The sets combine to create a board game looking layout. You could say they are recreating the platforming levels from the games. As you move Lego Mario around you can stomp on Goombas, defeat Koopa Troopas, swim past Bloopers, and embarrass Shy Guys. There is even a boss at the end, this time its Baby Bowser.

Along the way Lego Mario can find some help. A brick built Lego Yoshi, a handy Warp Pipe, and even Toad’s house. Some quick notes about the theme: It seems that the interactive features are found in various new Lego pieces. The big feet piece found on Yoshi and the Shy Guy probably hides some of the electronics, as does the turtle shell on Baby Bower. There are also a lot of new plates. A very interesting design in the green plates topping the landscaping is that they are probably hiding other electronic bits.

The Lego Super Mario theme looks like a lot of fun for kids. The Mario Party design is interesting, and all the features of Bluetooth Mario could prove to be fun.

Lego Super Mario Theme Announced On MAR10 Day!

Lego Super Mario Theme Announced On MAR10 Day!

It’s a me, Lego Mario!

It’s MAR10 Day (March 10th), a celebration of everything Mario related. For the event Nintendo is pushing coupons and discounts on various Mario video games and products. But the surprising news is from Lego, they have announced an official Lego Super Mario theme coming soon. Not a lot of details are available, other than the announcement teaser. The short video shows off what looks like the famous Mario Mario in some sort of Lego form. Clearly not a Minifigure. It looks like a whole new type of figure. Judging by the mostly standard Lego arms, the body is much shorter and wider than normal. Perched on top is an almost square head. Not unlike the Minecraft theme, but with even less in common with the Minifig. It is also unclear if this will be a normal theme in the Classic system, or something closer to the Duplo system. Let us hope that Lego and Nintendo don’t forget about the best Mario brother… Luigi!

Stay tuned for more, and check out the Lego Super Mario announcement below (or here)!

Brave The Forgotten Kingdom With Lego Hollow Knight

Lego Hollow Knight Video Game

Hollow Knight is one of the best Metroidvania sytle video games out there. It is a mysterious story about a Knight, a little bug, exploring the ancient City of Tears. Along the way odd allies are met while deadly enemies try to stop all. So why not take a brake from all that and join the The Grimm Troupe. A circus that just happens to be town right as everything is going wrong. This is the Lego Hollow Knight which is created by Red. A great MOC that is instantly recognizable. Check out the plates used for the armor, the horns/mandibles, and the fully posable body. Then there is the Nail (the traditional weapon in Hallownest), a super simple build that is perfect. This little bug looks like they are ready to take on the world.

The Lego Atari 2600, With Pitfall And Space Invaders

The Lego Atari 2600, With Pitfall And Space Invaders

The Atari 2600 was one of the first popular video game consoles. Originally offered in the late 1970s, the wild success eventually led the video game crash of 1983. Recreating old retro video game consoles in lego is very popular. This lego Atari 2600, created by -derjoe-, manages to keep the most defining feature of the console: its fake wood paneling. The choice of orange for the background fits the era perfectly. Not only is the 2600 made of lego, but the joystick, power adapter, Space Invaders video game cartridge, and the Pitfall video game box are also all lego. The black vented slots are present, as are all the toggle switches. The only thing missing is an old tv to play it on.

The details present are all very well done. Check out the Pitfall box, a super complicated design of lego plates creating the famous artwork. The toggle switches on the console even have room to be pushed up or down. The Atari logo is a a great micro-build all on its own. Even the joystick controller has some amazing details. Lego Roy Is Looking For An Invitation To Smash Bros

Lego Roy Is Ready To Fight In Smash Bros

This Lego Roy is looking for an invitation to Smash Bros. Roy is one of the many Fire Emblem fighters who just happens to fight with a sword. His first Smash was all the way back on the Gamecube with Melee. Where swords were not as popular. This little guy comes equipped with a red cape, fancy gold accented armor, and a striking red hair cut. Smash makes for a great theme for lego MOCs, but imagine a whole Lego Smash Bros. game. Maybe some day.

Lego Roy is created by Mattie Pino, who is on their way to creating the whole Smash Bros. Ultimate Line up in lego. Check them out over here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/154195440@N05/49536037612/

Clean Up Your Farm With Lego Stardew Valley

Lego Stardew Valley Farm MOC

Stardew Valley is a modern day classic video game about managing and running a farm. Heavily influenced by the Harvest Moon series, Stardew Valley has surpassed it in every way. Starting the game with an old run down farm, and eventually turning it into a virtual paradise is surprisingly relaxing. The Brick Art has created a great Lego Stardew Valley MOC for Lego Ideas. Here 1568 pieces combine into a modular farm. The huge selling point is the upgradable buildings and land. The whole build has also been built to scale, doing its best to match the video game. There has also been considerations taken to be able to add on or expand the farm. Maybe some day the local town, caves, and coast, will be created…

Octavian, A Lego Animal Crossing Villager MOC

Octavian, A Lego Animal Crossing Villager MOC

Lego and Animal Crossing seem like they would be a great fit. Depending on how you count there are almost (or more) than 500 villagers that appear in the video game series. One of which is named Octavian. In Animal Crossing he is known as a cranky octopus who is really into outer space and aliens. The octopus type of villager is one of the more rare types to visit, making Octavian rather special. This Lego Octavian is the creation of Dave Foreman. Everything is official Lego pieces, and on the purple cone is a custom star that probably took a lot more work then expected.

If you are looking for something similar, there is an old Lego theme called Fabuland, which shares a lot of concepts. Animal villagers living and working around town.

Death Stranding Lego Minifigures

Death Stranding Lego Minifigures, Fragile, Die-Hardman, Sam Porter Bridges, Higgs, BT

It seems that Death Stranding is a bit polarizing. Either the best game of the year, or the biggest disappointment. No matter what you may think of the recent video game, you have to give credit to an amazing amount of creativity in the characters. Jonas Kramm has recreated five of those characters as Death Stranding Lego minifigures. Represented in this collection is (from left to right) Fragile, Die-Hardman, Sam Porter Bridges, Higgs, and an otherwordly BT. A few of the details to note is the futuristic umbrella, the extremely large backpack, and the whole BT setup. It all works very well in Lego.

Go Back To 1999 With Lego Racers

Lego Racers (1999) on PC

Lego Racers is one of those early 3D games from the late 90s. Specifically 1999. Even though this is around the same time Lego Star Wars was released, the game only features original Lego themes. Choose from a selection of drivers and racers from classic Lego themes such as: Pirates, Space, and Lego City. You can even mix and match, and create your own racer. Which you will need to do, as you will eventually have to go up against Rocket Racer.

Lazy Game Reviews, or LGR, has put together a great eight minute video showing off the whole game. LGR even offers some tips on how to get the video game to run. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/qNBFNFbFlNo

Build Your Own Lego NES Pi Case

WayGroovy Lego NES Pi

The Nintendo NES Classic has proven to be more popular then anyone planned. Months after the release the NES Classic is still extremely rare. The other down side is that it only 30 games. You can wait around to buy one of these, or you can build your own (which some people might consider better). You just need a Raspberry Pi B+ and some technical knowledge. Best of all you can even build your own NES case out of Lego. WayGroovy has done just that. This MOC is based on the work by Chris McVeigh. With a few modifications WayGroovy was able to fit the whole thing in an amazingly small package.

The best part is that they documented the process, so you can build one yourself. Check out the Lego NES Pi Case here: http://imgur.com/a/8EeyD
