The Lego Australian Coat of Arms

Check out this relief sculpture of the Australian Coat of Arms made out of Lego. This model was posted by Ryan McNaught over on Flickr, it is noted that the Lego Coat of Arms was made by Mitchell. The detail work here is amazing. Check out the tiny inset mosaics in the shield. Each of the states in Australia are easily identifiable. There is New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. The shield is surrounded by a Lego Kangaroo and a Lego Emu. With a nice leafy background. All completely made of Lego. This Lego Australian Coat of Arms was built in celebration of Australia Day 2015, which is celebrated on the 26th of January.

The Lego Time Machine

Everyone would want a Time Machine. Imagine what you could do with one. Carl Merriam built his own, which is inspired by the classic H.G. Wells novel titled The Time Machine. The novel was first published back in 1895, an important note as at the time the wooden and brass styling was considered futuristic. Now this style is more often associated with Steam Punk, which that is based on old science fiction novels. The red, brown and gold colors here work extremely well, and the blue highlights pop out in a good way. Lego sure has come a long way, something like this would have been impossible to build 10 years ago. As color and part choice was completely different a decade ago. You would have needed a Time Machine in order to build this. Just watch out for Morlocks.

A Song of Ice and Fire: A Fire Breathing Lego Dragon

The Lego dragon is one deadly category of MOC builds. There is a lot of great competition. Even Lego has made some pretty good brick built dragons in their Ninjago theme. Although Lego also seems to favor a custom big figure for these. A lot of people were let down that the Hobbit theme didn’t include a giant brick built dragon (Smaug deserves better).

Sean and Steph Mayo have recently participated in an Iron Builder competition, and this “A Song of Ice and Fire” is their entry. They went all out and created a crowd pleaser. This Lego dragon actually breathes fire. Making this the most deadly Lego dragon ever created. Most people think about putting and LED or two into their work, imaging working with propane. The Iron Builder challenge here was to incorporate the silver tubing into a build. They describe it better below:

“The seed part is used as wing veins, stomach scales, horns, spines, and most importantly his throat. The tubing runs all the way through his neck, body, and tail. At the end, it is attached to a small portable propane tank.”

The Deadly Samus Aran, A Lego Metroid Prime Teaser.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy is back with a fully digital re-release for the Wii U. The Trilogy is one of the most prized Wii video games, and now the awesome story can be experienced by everyone. The Flickr user, Jared If only I remembered, created this Lego Metroid Prime Samus Aran Minifigure as a teaser for their upcoming Brickworld Chicago 2015 display. It is worth noting that a few of the details are still being worked out. Samus will feature a black T-bar in the final build. Her power armor is looking great. Check out the space helmets used for shoulder pads, and the little Metroid on the side.

Lego Calvin and Hobbes. – Things are never quite as scary when you’ve got a best friend.

Calvin and Hobbes is one of the greatest comics. As a fitting tribute, two Lego builders (Simon Liu and Lego Junkie) teamed up and created a Lego Calvin and Hobbes. The idea to create these figures stated with a simple question: “So… you have a lot of orange right?” With some imagination and Lego, that simple question ended up as a Lego Hobbes. The slightly ruffled fur, achieved with a combination of slopes and curve pieces, is a perfect touch. The whole thing is topped off with an expressive portrait of Hobbes. But, you cannot create the most famous imaginary tiger without creating its owner. Calvin makes for a good Lego figure, but might have the smallest possible hands. This duo looks ready for a Sunday full of adventure.

This Custom Lego Friends Wonder Woman is Awesome

The Lego Friends have proven to much more versatile then originally thought. One super cool way to customize your figures is with custom painting. This Lego Friends Wonder Woman is a great example of what can be done with some paint and a brush. To complete the look, the hair piece, and golden whip can be found in the recent Superman vs. Power Armor Lex (6862) set. Diana Prince is now ready to fight the worst Lego criminals out there.

The FriendsLoader, A Lego Friends Power Loader

The Lego Friends are a lot tougher then they appear. Stephanie here looks like she is ready to load up some heavy cargo, or to kick some alien butt. There have been some great Minifigure scale Power Loaders, but this is one of the best Friends scale ones. It has even been dressed up with some pink; perfect for fitting in with all the other sets. This exoskeleton has some great details, especially the use of the Lego 1×1 round bricks. This Lego Friends Power Loader uses some common pieces, so it should be easy to build at home.

Spend the Year of the Sheep with a Lego Shaun the Sheep

Spend the year of the Sheep with everybody’s favorite Shaun the Sheep. Shaun stars in his own animated TV Show, which in turn is a spin off of Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave. This cute Lego vignette shows the titular sheep hanging out with a much more angry looking sheep. Maybe it needs to be shorn? Which, in Lego would mean removing a couple of plates? No matter, these two sheep are excellent builds.

There’s Always Money in the Lego Banana Stand

There are many iconic locations from the TV show Arrested Development, but none are as famous as the Bluth’s Original Frozen Banana Stand. This great little MOC features some extremely nice custom stickers. The SNOT building used to get the shape of the Banana Stand is amazingly complicated. And, best of all there looks to be enough room for a George Michael or Maeby Fünke. The tight space will certainly create some awkward situations. This thing is so accurate that I have a feeling there might even be Lego money lining the walls of the Banana Stand.

411C: A Beautiful Lego Studio in Lego

Lego builder Dave Kaleta has created an extremely realistic MOC based on his Lego studio. The project is titled “411C” and is named after the address of the studio space. This is a great workspace, featuring two huge desks, plenty of organized storage, unorganized storage, and even Lego mosaics hanging on the wall. This scene is made all the better by natural lighting and a huge window.

It is the details that make 411C so lifelike. Notice the glass jars on top of the shelving. The multicolored and differently shaped storage containers in the loft space. The well made mini mosaics. The feet holding up the main desk are especially well done, as is the slightly askew handles on the drawers. The desk chair is another great build, with a great use of a Lego propeller for the casters.
