A Lego Black Seas Barracuda (6285) Mini

BangooH's Lego Black Seas Barracuda 6285 Mini

Lego has a few sets that will forever be remembered. Each of the Lego themes have had a few of such sets over the decades. For Lego Pirates the most famous set is the Black Seas Barracuda (6285) from 1989. There was even a rerelease in 2002 called Black Seas Barracuda (10040) which had a few different pieces, but ultimately looked the same. These two sets are 13 years apart. Applying this information to today, it would mean that 2015 is due for another release. Maybe a mini Barracuda could happen. This example has been created by Bangoo H. The Mini Black Seas Barracuda has perfectly built brick sails, two mini pirate flags, and even some basic rigging. Everything about the original is represented here, even anchor. Maybe someday we will see an official Lego Mini Barracuda… maybe.

The Neo-Blacktron Alienator: A reboot of Lego set 6876

Jeremy Williams's Lego Blacktron Alienator

“You cannot hide, Federation!”

If one Lego theme could sum up the 1980’s it would be Blacktron. Jeremy Williams has created the Alienator, a Neo-Blacktron reboot of official Alienator (6876) from 1988. The iconic black and yellow color scheme, the laser gridded star field, and the clunky design is all perfectly represented. The first thing to be updated were the swinging skies which are now four hydraulic legs. One of the best features of this walker is the hidden Pulse Generator hidden in the central body.

The Lego Movie: Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! (70816) Review at New Elementary

New Elementary's Lego Benny Spaceship Top View 70816 Review

Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! (70816) might be the most anticipated release based on The Lego Movie. It certainly has an awesome name. This ship comes in at 940 pieces at a $99.99 price tag. It should start showing up in stores in June (2014) and if your lucky it may already be there (UPDATE: Now on Amazon!) . This retro styled spaceship is a perfect modern recreation of that 1980’s nostalgia. This set has a lot of huge expectations, and most of them have been met.

New Elementary's Lego Benny Spaceship Front View 70816 Review

New Elementary has received Benny’s Spaceship early, and has reviewed it with a focus on detail and parts. There are a lot of rare and updated versions of classic parts in this new set. The classic blue, grey and yellow color scheme has been preserved. The yellow trans pieces are especially nice, and while all of them have been updated from their 1980’s inspiration these updates have been improvements.

“It’s gorgeous and sleek and Spacers will feel like they’ve got several Christmases at once.”

New Elementary's Lego Benny Spaceship Side View 70816 Review

One thing that reviews of Benny’s Spaceship have in common is how surprising the size of the set is. This thing is huge. The final build comes in at 64 studs long, which is equal to 2 of the normal sized baseplates.

The spaceship comes with 4 Minifigures, 1 Unikitty, and a few brick built robots. There is Robo Emmet, which is Emmets slick robot disguise. Wyldstyle in a spacesuit, including a cool blue hoodie piece. A Robo Pilot, with a Space Police color scheme. Unikitty is dressed up in a slick blue spacesuit and nicknamed Astrokitty. And, last but not least there is Benny.

Lego Ghostbusters Video Review (21108) by 1980s Something

1980sSomething's 21108 Lego Ghostbusters Video Review

Cade and Brent from 1980s Something have released a full video review for the new Lego Ghostbusters (21108) set. It is a 17+ minute review covering all of the tiny details. A favorite part is the time lapse build of the Ecto-1. This set looks incredibly detailed and surprisingly complicated. Lego Ghostbusters (21108) will be released in June with a $49.99 price tag. Make sure to watch the full review below:

DrDaveWatford has posted one of the first reviews of the new Lego CUUSOO (Lego Ideas) set over at Brickset. The Lego Ghostbusters review (21108) features a detailed look at the packaging, Ecto-1 vehicle, and Minifigures. The set will be released in June with a $49.99 price tag. Based on the part list in the instruction booklet it looks like Lego Ghostbusters will come with an estimated 481 pieces.

DrDaveWatford's Lego Ghostbusters Review 21108 Ecto-1

It should be noted that this Lego Ghostbusters set is a little bit smaller then the original proposal, but the end result still looks great. No odd changes here, like there was in the Lego Back to the Future DeLorean. This build is heavily reliant on SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques which allow the Ecto-1 to keep a sleek appearance. A great accomplishment for Lego. The Ecto-1 is able to hold 3 of the 4 Ghostbusters comfortably, and can probably hold all 4 with some modifications.

The Lego Ghostbusters set is packaged like the previous Lego CUUSOO and Architecture sets. With a high quality box that opens up from the top. It also contains a perfect-bound softcover booklet style instruction manual. Filled with Ghostbusters quotes, trivia, and history. Coming in at over 100 pages, these instruction manuals are a huge feature for these sets.

It is also notable that this set comes with a few rare pieces, and even some exclusive pieces. The best inclusion is all of the printed parts. There are no stickers in this set.

The Minifigures are all recognizable. Lego changed Peter Venkman’s hair cut for the official release. Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore all feature exclusive printed torsos and unique heads. The end result is an extremely cute set of Ghostbusters.

Lego Ghostbusters: Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Friends on CUUSOO

BrentWaller's Lego Ghostbusters: Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Set

Lego is gearing up to release their first Ghostbusters themed set. After the Lego CUUSOO Back to the Future project was accepted and announced the idea of a Ghostbusters themed set gained popularity. The creator of Lego Ghostbusters (21108) is BrentWaller, who has recently proposed a new Ghostbusters set. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. This guy is huge, and when it is taking over your Lego Modular City, who are you going to call?

This giant gooey monster is not alone, he is being proposed with three accompanying Minifigures. Everybody’s favorite bad guy, Walter Peck. Dana Barrett as the Gatekeeper. And, Louis Tully as the Keymaster. These three are ready to foil whatever plans the Ghostbusters have ready.

BrentWaller's Lego Ghostbusters: Louis Tully, Dana Barrett, Walter Peck

“Random Facts:

  • Over 34cm or 13 inches tall
  • If I was to use a similar ratio of a human compared to the Stay Puft as there is in the movie, That Marshmallow Man would be 68cm or 27 inches tall, which makes this version exactly half scale compared to a minifig.
  • Estimated 1800 Pieces (This could be reduced fairly easily, it was more due to my limited piece library and budget)
  • Estimated 60 hours design and build time.”

Lego Ghostbusters (21108) CUUSOO set officially revealed!

Lego Ghostbusters 21108 Minifigures

“I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us.” — Dr. Ray Stantz

It seems that the upcoming Lego Ghostbusters (21108) CUUSOO set will be upon us sooner then expected. At the recent Toy Fair (2014), Lego officially revealed details and photos for the new set. The Lego Ghostbusters (21108) will be available for purchase in June 2014 with a retail price of $49.99. The set will include a very slick looking Ecto-1, and the Ghostbusters themselves: Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz, Dr. Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore. The original design was done by Brent Waller, and most of his ideas have been persevered here (except for the Firehouse, which is understandably missing).

Lego Ghostbusters 21108 Set

Not only do the Minifigures have an uncanny resemblance to the Ghostbusters, but the Ecto-1 is almost perfect. It features some SNOT building techniques that really help to preserve the iconic look. A few noticable details are the beautiful Lego blue hoses, and the whip accessory in black.

Lego Ghostbusters 21108 Ecto-1

“This fun and iconic vehicle from the blockbusting ‘80s movie is fully loaded with all the paranormal detection equipment needed to track down those ghastly ghosts. It also features cool Ghostbusters logo decoration, removable roof, tracking computer and seats for 3 minifigures.”

Lego CUUSOO Fall 2013 Review: Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary!

Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Cuusoo Project: Group

Lego just announced the results for the next CUUSOO set. The Lego Review board has approved a Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary set. The other proposals that were looked at included the Female Minifigures set, Poptropica, FTL Spaceships, the Road to Oz, ATLAS mini model, Ghostbusters, and Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary. Lego made a good choice and chose the better of the two Ghostbusters sets. Too bad it sounds like they will not be making the handsome headquarters building. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore are back in action.

Ghostbusters Cuusoo Project: Ecto-1

Lego specifically mentions the Minifigures and the Ecto-1 for this upcoming set. With a tentative release date of 2014, but no exact month. This is great complimentary set to the recent Back to the Future set. Read more about the Ghostbuster here: http://everydaybricks.com/lego-ghostbusters-cuusoo-project/
