The Legend of Zelda: Hylian Shield

Although Twilight Princess is not the most memorable game in the Zelda franchise, it is the basis for one of the most memorable Lego MOC. The Legend of Zelda and Lego are a perfect fit. There are many advanced techniques when building with Lego, ways of putting the pieces together that Lego has never documented in an instruction manual. A perfect example of this is Link’s Hylian Shield. Just look at the detail put into creating the complicated pattern on the front. Yep, those are crowbars, space helmets, crabs, dragon helmets, fans, fezzes, and even ray guns all in the red bird motif.

Mos Eisley Cantina

One of the most iconic scenes from Star Wars is the hustle and bustle of the Mos Eisley Cantina. Lego has never done a good set based on the Cantina, which has caused a lot of people to take it on themselves.

This Mos Eisley Cantina is the creation of Flickr user Ar Sparfel. It has everything a good Cantina would need. The great central bar where Ponda Baba losses his arm, the band Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes rocking out, and even the booth where Han shot Greedo first. So much great stuff in a relatively small build. It even looks like a roof may have been built, which would be great to see in the future.

Lego Super Star Destroyer MOC, Release the KR-KN!

“After the death of the Emperor Palpatine and Lord Vader, the Empire made a last ditch attempt to thwart their enemies by rushing to complete their fleet of Venator class super star destroyers. However, by the time these vessels could be deployed, the Rebel Alliance had already developed its own super weapon, designation KR-KN.”

Iain Heath, also known as Ochre Jelly on Flickr, created Release the KR-KN! His original goal was to liven up the Super Star Destroyer from is grayness. Make sure to read the whole store here. Lets make this happen in Star Wars VII.

R2-D2 + Black + Gold = R2-Pi

R2-Pi is an awesome MOC based on the popular Lego Star Wars R2-D2 (10225). It really shows what you can do by color swapping and making slight modifications to an official Lego set. The end result is almost steampunk. If I flew an X-Wing , R2-Pi would be by co-pilot.

Odysseus and the Sirens

Homer’s the Odyssey is one of the greatest adventures of all time. Just look at that Lego Odysseus, he looks so happy to see those Sirens. Good thing he is tied up, and those sailors have wax in their ears. Who knows what kind of evil things those Sirens would do.

Steampunk Steam Temple

Imagine that Howl’s Moving Castle had a little steampunk baby… It would be great to create a stop motion video with this Steam Temple walking around. The black, brown, and gold color scheme is very harmonious.

Room With A View Of Paradise

A Room With A View Of Paradise, created by Flickr user Brickthing, is a perfect example of how some people can take ordinary Lego bricks and put them together in ways that no one expects.

At first glance this is a simple scene of a family room. After looking at this MOC for a while some subtle details stand out. For instance the videogame joystick on the table, the stereo, the aquarium, the sculpture, and the television are all examples of the sheer amount of detail and advanced building skills put into this room.

Darkmire Mill

“The old mill on the edge of Grim Hollow now stands as a refuge for Lord Owain as he awaits the return of his sister who brings a tired Taryn and Sarlina with her. The once fast flowing river that powered the wheel has now become all but a small slow stream.”

Darkmire Mill is probably the best Lego mill I have ever seen, and I have seen many. Every detail in the scene has been perfectly placed. The waterfall, the creek bed, the ramshackle mill, the gnarly trees, even the extravagantly detailed base.

Flickr user Derfel Cadarn, is responsible for Darkmire Mill. Interestingly enough, the description states that this is Chapter 1: Grim Hollow, of the Dark Isle Saga.

CONTACT 1

One of the most ambitious Lego models this year, Contact 1 is almost dream like. This micro scale scene is full of so many details that it is overwhelming to view. Calling this model micro scale is a little misleading, it is 5 feet tall and 6 feet wide. This thing is tall enough to ride a roller coaster.

The official concept behind Contact 1 reads like no other MOC ever built.

“This is a story where human consciousness rediscovers the art of intuition and the subtle – but powerful – forces of the universe. Here, groups of modern humans use ancient rituals which – in combination with expanded consciousness – initiates communication with the great space faring cultures of the universe. Vectoring extraterrestrial beings to their position on earth, these humans invite the visitors to help heal the planet through the ETs’ transformative powers and bring the greater Earth community closer to the spiritual nature of the universe.”

Contact 1, by Mike Doyle, has been so successful that a Kickstarter campaign has been formed and completely funded. With rewards offering prints, posters and even Lego models, this whole project is one of the most unique Kickstarter campaigns yet.

If I lived in Contact 1, my house would be the little red roofed one thats located at about 2 feet from the bottom.

Star Wars – Tour De Force

R2D2’s secret passion is to ride in the Tour De Force. Where once a year the universes most elite bicyclists compete in a 23 day tour of Endor. Watch out R2D2, I hear that Anakin doesn’t play fair.
