Lego Ghostbusters: Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Friends on CUUSOO

BrentWaller's Lego Ghostbusters: Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Set

Lego is gearing up to release their first Ghostbusters themed set. After the Lego CUUSOO Back to the Future project was accepted and announced the idea of a Ghostbusters themed set gained popularity. The creator of Lego Ghostbusters (21108) is BrentWaller, who has recently proposed a new Ghostbusters set. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. This guy is huge, and when it is taking over your Lego Modular City, who are you going to call?

This giant gooey monster is not alone, he is being proposed with three accompanying Minifigures. Everybody’s favorite bad guy, Walter Peck. Dana Barrett as the Gatekeeper. And, Louis Tully as the Keymaster. These three are ready to foil whatever plans the Ghostbusters have ready.

“Random Facts:

  • Over 34cm or 13 inches tall
  • If I was to use a similar ratio of a human compared to the Stay Puft as there is in the movie, That Marshmallow Man would be 68cm or 27 inches tall, which makes this version exactly half scale compared to a minifig.
  • Estimated 1800 Pieces (This could be reduced fairly easily, it was more due to my limited piece library and budget)
  • Estimated 60 hours design and build time.”

Lego Ghostbusters (21108) CUUSOO set officially revealed!

Lego Ghostbusters 21108 Minifigures

“I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us.” — Dr. Ray Stantz

It seems that the upcoming Lego Ghostbusters (21108) CUUSOO set will be upon us sooner then expected. At the recent Toy Fair (2014), Lego officially revealed details and photos for the new set. The Lego Ghostbusters (21108) will be available for purchase in June 2014 with a retail price of $49.99. The set will include a very slick looking Ecto-1, and the Ghostbusters themselves: Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz, Dr. Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore. The original design was done by Brent Waller, and most of his ideas have been persevered here (except for the Firehouse, which is understandably missing).

Not only do the Minifigures have an uncanny resemblance to the Ghostbusters, but the Ecto-1 is almost perfect. It features some SNOT building techniques that really help to preserve the iconic look. A few noticable details are the beautiful Lego blue hoses, and the whip accessory in black.

“This fun and iconic vehicle from the blockbusting ‘80s movie is fully loaded with all the paranormal detection equipment needed to track down those ghastly ghosts. It also features cool Ghostbusters logo decoration, removable roof, tracking computer and seats for 3 minifigures.”

Lego CUUSOO Fall 2013 Review: Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary!

Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Cuusoo Project: Group

Lego just announced the results for the next CUUSOO set. The Lego Review board has approved a Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary set. The other proposals that were looked at included the Female Minifigures set, Poptropica, FTL Spaceships, the Road to Oz, ATLAS mini model, Ghostbusters, and Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary. Lego made a good choice and chose the better of the two Ghostbusters sets. Too bad it sounds like they will not be making the handsome headquarters building. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore are back in action.

Ghostbusters Cuusoo Project: Ecto-1

Lego specifically mentions the Minifigures and the Ecto-1 for this upcoming set. With a tentative release date of 2014, but no exact month. This is great complimentary set to the recent Back to the Future set. Read more about the Ghostbuster here: http://everydaybricks.com/lego-ghostbusters-cuusoo-project/

An Awesome Lego Classic Space Jacket

EvilMadScientist's Lego Classic Space Flight Jacket 01

The Lego Classic Space Logo is an icon for everything Lego did right in the 1980’s. It is extremely recognizable, and embodies the optimism that the world was going through at the time. It seemed that through the 1990’s Lego was quick to forget this. Going from a classical space exploration theme into something more extreme. Since then there has been a resurgence in this classic theme. Lego has even recognized this trend, and has been making references to its popularity. One can only hope a full theme will land in the future.

Evil Mad Scientist has recently created a hand painted Classic Space jacket featuring the Lego Classic Space Logo. The beautiful simplicity of the logo means that this is a relatively easy project to do yourself. Evil Mad Scientist has included detailed step by step instructions.

The use of stencils and leather paints means that almost anyone can create one of these flight jackets. The whole project can be finished up in a few days. If you happen to have an old leather jacket around then this turns into a pretty cheap project.

When somethings strange in your Lego drawer, “Who you gonna call? — Ghostbusters!”

BrentWaller has proposed a whole Ghostbusters theme over at Lego Cuusoo in celebration of the films 30th anniversary. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore would all appear in Minifigure form, along with the ever popular Slimer. No one would expect these guys to capture these ghosts unprepared, so they come with a full set of Proton Packs, PKG Meters, and Ghost Traps.

Not only would you get the whole Ghostbusters team, but their headquarters too. The office is super detailed and surprisingly accurate. Because, of the sheer size and scope of such a build, this would probably be cut from the final set if Lego approves one.

Ghostbusters Cuusoo Project: Building

The last piece of the proposal is the Ecto-1, which is one of the most iconic vehicles in film history. Here it has been recreated in full Lego and even features some amazing lighting. The Ectomobile is based off of the 1959 Cadillac Ambulance and is instantly recognizable.

Lego has been open to licensed Cuusoo projects in the past. Especially Back to the Future, which has been approved and is expected to be sold sometime before the end of the year. This is good news for a future Ghostbusters theme. Check it out on the official Cuusoo page: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/36088

Castle Grayskull

Fraslund's Grayskull He–Man

“By the Power of Grayskull”, who knew that Lego would be such a great medium for rendering 80’s cartoons in 3D!

Flickr user Fraslund’s Grayskull He–Man is perfect. Master of the Lego Universe indeed. All night I will be saying “I Have the Power!”.

Cowabunga: Turtle Party Wagon (TMNT)

LegoJalex’s Turtle Party Wagon (TMNT)

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (TMNT) sets have some of the most expressive Minifigs, too bad most of the set designs are based off the newer shows. Now if Lego could release some sets with the animated 80’s style, they would sell boat loads.

Flickr user LegoJalex created the classic Turtle Party Wagon. Totally awesome! For some reason I feel like some pizza…
