The Port of Quebec, A Lego Pirate MOC

Mattiusxavier's Port of Quebec, A Lego Pirate MOC Detail

“Captain Lafayette was proud of his crew, they had sailed with the main fleet into the Caribbean and helped bring terrible ruin to the Pirate Scum lurking on those light blue seas and now were enjoying a much deserved return back to their home port in Québec. Little did Lafayette know thought that some local Pirate Scum were planning a heist, not just any heist but a heist to steal his ship.”

The Port of Québec is an amazing Lego Pirate MOC. Built by Mattius Xavier for Beyond the New World: Colonialism, a Flickr group building Lego MOCs focused on the exploitation and colonization of the Americas. These type of groups have been increasing in popularity, which is a great thing, because they produce some amazing stuff. The Port of Québec looks like a very busy seaport. The use of the newer expressive Lego Minifigure heads adds a lot of life to the display. Plus the trans-blue water looks great. There is a lot of action in this scene.

The Lands of Classic Castle: Uncovered

Disco86's Lego The Lands of Classic Castle: Uncovered

Lego has inspired many great MOCs. There are a few themes (Classic Space, Classic Castle, Star Wars, Middle Earth, Harry Potter, City) that have communities devoted to them. One of the most active communities is for the Classic Castle theme. Many Lego creations are created for this theme every day. One such place fans gather is at Classic-Castle. Over there is a unique fantasy world under development called the Lands of Classic Castle. An extremely detailed story and setting are being created piece by piece. The newest entry into the series is title “Uncovered” and is the creation of Disco86. Documenting an intense sea battle with Paul von Brickenstein.

Disco86's Lego The Lands of Classic Castle: Uncovered Detail

These castle theme Lego MOCs are usually extremely well done. Uncovered is no exception. With a relatively focused scene, every brick lends itself to the action. Some great Minifigures and photography are on display. The man overboard and the jumping attack are two great details. Also on display is the increasing trend of building amazing display frames.

Lego The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, Lake-town Chase (79013) Reviewed by the Brothers Brick

Brothers Brick's Lego The Hobbit Lake Town Chase 79013 Review

The newest wave of the Lego The Hobbit sets are now available. The Brothers Brick have a great review of the star set, Lake-town Chase (79013). This set has 470 pieces, 5 minifigures, and can be found at $49.99. Lake-town Chase features two buildings, and a long boat. Interestingly, the long boat is made out of two smaller row boats. With a mast, and two shields hiding the seems. A nice barrel is included that helps tie this in with the previous Barrel Escape (79004) set. You can never have enough Lego Barrels.

These Lego Hobbit sets have proven to be slight spoilers for the films. Here it looks like there is some action scene and/or jail escape in the Lake-town portion. Which seems exciting, even though nothing like this happens in the books.

Brothers Brick's Lego The Hobbit Lake Town Chase 79013 Review 2Brothers Brick's Lego The Hobbit Lake-town Chase 79013 Review 1

The weakest part of Lake-town Chase is the minifigure selection. By now most collectors will have a Bilbo, and maybe a Thorin. The last thing we need in a new set is a Bilbo and/or Gandalf unless they contain new prints/designs. It would have been great if one or two of these minifigures could have been town guards. What funny hats.

Lego Maersk Line Triple-E (10241) Container Ship Revealed!

Lego Maersk Line Triple-E 10241

Lego has recently announced a new entry in its Maersk Theme. The Lego Maersk Line Triple-E 10241 container ship is one of the largest ships that Lego has released. Measuring more than 2 feet long this ship is going to have a tough time fitting in a bath tub. Speaking of which, Lego is quick to point out that the Triple-E does not float. The Maersk ship does feature twin engines and propellers, viewing port into said engine, rudders, lifeboats, removable containers, movable crane, and one hidden coin. It also looks like this set will be featuring about a million stickers.

This is the first Maersk ship to be built using the new medium azure (blue). In the past Lego used an exclusive color, Maersk blue, which could only be found in Maersk themed sets. It would seem that Maersk blue has been retired, at least for the time being.

Lego Maersk Line Triple-E 10241 Detail

This massive container ship is made up of 1,518 pieces, which makes it a decent value at $149.99. One interesting detail is that Lego and Maersk are making a big deal out of the twin propeller engines, even building a viewing port into the side of the hull. The 10241 Lego Maersk Line Triple-E will be available in January 2014.

Lego Maersk Line Triple-E 10241 Engines

Presenting the largest ship in the world — the record-breaking Maersk ‘Triple-E.’ Built from over 1,500 bricks, the model recreates the real vessel in amazing detail. Our LEGO® designers have included rare colors such as medium azur, dark red, sand blue and sand green. There are rotating gold-colored screw blades leading to the brick-built twin propeller engines, which you can view through the window built into the port side of the ship. You can even customize it by adding or removing the containers. This authentic set includes a display stand and fact plaque with detailed information about the ship and, as a finishing touch, there’s the gold coin that is added under the mast of all Maersk Line ships for good luck on their voyages. This model is perfect for LEGO fans!

Ages 12+. 1,518 pieces.

Captain Cook’s Galleon

PippoZane's Lego Captain Cooks Galleon

Pirate ships are one of those classic Lego themes. Lego has had a tough time creating a good mini Pirate ship (3 hull pieces or less). It is a tough scale to work in and usually the proportions end up weird. Here Pippo Zane has succeeded in creating Captain Cook’s Galleon. Using a brown, gold, and red color scheme works well. With careful attention to detail with the main Cabin, Poop deck, and Forecastle. The red carpet and curtains into the main Cabin are an especially nice touch.

Normandy SR2 — Mass Effect Lego

BennyBrickster's Normandy SR2 - Mass Effect Lego

The Mass Effect Trilogy is one of the most famous modern RPGs of all time. The epic story of Commander Shepard and his legendary crew have inspired an almost unparalleled amount to fan art. Including countless Lego models. The main focus for most Lego builders is the sleek Normandy SR2 starship. The SR2 is the successor of the cutting edge SR1. Making its first appearance in Mass Effect 2, this Cerberus built ship has no comparison, everything about it is lightyears ahead of its closest competition.

Benny Brickster, of Flickr, took over seven months to complete this MOC. The sleek design is especially troublesome, and was recreated here without being too bulky. Curves are always hard to do correctly in Lego, but the larger scale of this spaceship allows it to keep a smooth profile. Also note the beautiful Normandy text, and the SR2 logo; completely made out of standard Lego bricks.

“I’m Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite” starship in the galaxy.
