The Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson, is one of those epic fantasy series. WoT spans 23 years, 14 novels, and 1 prequel. For a while it seemed like there would never be an end. Especially in the late middle half of the series, where everyone was going nowhere fast. It all starts out with a couple of youths in an out-of-the-way village who soon find themselves wrapped up in a plot to save the world. With over four millions words written, it is safe to say you get to know the main characters pretty well. Sir Glub recently started reading through the series and was inspired to create his own Lego Minifigures. Represented are the main characters, Al’Lan Mandragoran, Moiraine Damodred, Rand al’Thor, Perrin Aybara, and Matrim (Mat) Cauthon. The expressions on the minfig heads are perfect. From the emotionless Aes Sedai to the troublesome smirk of Mat. There are hundreds of characters, but two of the most important that are missing are Egwene al’Vere, and Nynaeve al’Meara. They are probably too busy pulling on their Lego braids to be in a photo.

The Lord of the Rings; The Council of Elrond in Lego

And that is another reason why the Ring should be destroyed: as long as it is in the world it will be a danger even to the Wise. For nothing is evil in the beginning. Even Sauron was not so. The Council Of Elrond is one of the most important scenes in the Lord of the Rings. This diplomatic meeting lays out the plans and sets up the events that would lead to the destruction of the One Ring. Lego has recently released an official set based on The Council of Elrond and although a good set, it does not express the importance of this event. Disco86 has created the ultimate Council of Elrond. All the characters are here, Aragorn, Boromir, Elrond, Gimli, Legolas, Gandalf, Merry, Pippin, Sam, and Frodo. Some welcome and other not (Merry, Pippin & Sam). All of these little details are present in this scene. Speaking of details, check out the ground that Elrond is standing on. Using the cheese wedge Lego pieces is a great way to achieve a SNOT appearance with curved surfaces. The trees in this scene are also very well done, showcasing the recent colors added to the Lego collection. This is a beautiful Lego build.

Lego Game Of Thrones: Godswood Weirwood Tree

A Game of Thrones makes for some great Lego MOCs. There is already a deadly “Red Wedding” featured on LegoGenre. In this vignette the focus is on one of the mysterious Weirwood Trees. Presumably set in the Winterfell Godswood. Each Godswood grove contains one Weirwood (also known as a heart-tree). The Weirwood is a very unique tree, featuring white bark, red leaves, and a formation in the center trunk that looks like a face. The Weirwood often bleeds a red sap from this face. Each one is thousands of years old, and is used as a religious site for the Old gods.

Flailx has designed this great Lego Game of Thrones scene. Showing Eddard Stark praying and cleaning his sword, named Ice. Lego has recently been producing new foliage and leaves in all sorts of new colors. Most recently the red leaves have been popping up in the Hobbot theme, and Flailx quickly used these to create this Weirwood. A great Lego tree, using none of the standard tree branches, but instead using the Lego cylinders. This is also another good example of how adding a frame to a vignette helps pull it altogether.

Lego Lake Town Chase (79103) from The Hobbit to be released December 2013

Lego has announced a whole boat load of new Lego sets this weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). One of which is the new Lego, The Hobbit: Lake Town Chase (79103). Featuring a boat, and two Lake Town buildings. The set will include 334 pieces and be priced at $49.99; to be released this December. Five minifigures will be included, Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, Bard the Bowman, a generic guard, and the Master of Lake Town. Lego Lake Town looks like an expensive, but well designed set.
